I worked at id Software full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazing talent in this studio, which pulled off an amazing feat with DOOM 2016 that no one expected. Everyone there loves the id IPs and most got their start with them back in the '90s. Doom 2016 felt more like experienced devs putting together their love-letter to the brand that started it all. Future is VERY bright now that this team has made DOOM together.

    Cons

Bonuses and salary aren't nearly what they used to be in the id old days, but understandable considering the team sizes required now. A bit of corporate culture creep after the Zenimax buyout (annoying security protocols, etc.), but they trust id and get out of the way when needed (and support when needed). All in all, they are a great fit.

    Advice to Management

Keep on Keeping on! Marty and Hugo are great leaders!

    Lead Multiplayer Designer Interview

    Anonymous Employee in Mesquite, TX
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at id Software (Mesquite, TX).

    Interview

Phone interview, references check, on-site interview. Used a recruiter to get my foot in the door. Once you pass the phone interview, their might be a skill test (level test), then they bring you to Dallas for the on-site. You meet with studio management, and likely Marty alone. Then the rest of the day you are being visited and interviewed by small groups (disciplines), e.g. engineers, designers, producers, etc. End the day with tour, product showcase (NDA), and a chance to ask any questions. All and all a pretty standard industry interview.

    • What were the best/worst processes we used at my last job/project. Which would worth continuing here?   1 Answer
