    Senior User Experience Designer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in New York, NY
    Declined Offer
    Negative Experience

    Application

The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at redBus India (New York, NY).

    Interview

The initial round of communication was transparent and positive.

The only downside for the hiring process is the team expect you to do a "design test" on Red bus existing product. Which involves solving the real live problem of product.

I have two issues with doing design tests.

    1. Even if you are lead or manager the team expects to do design test which requires lot of effort and time from candidate side without any garantee of offer or reward for efforts. I understand you want to select the best candidates but I am sure they must be better ways of figuring out. I don't think so any industry apart from UX expects candidates to produce work. Chemical engineering candidates doesn't go to labs to experiment nor PhD candidates work on sample research problem before getting accepted into prestigious University. Most of the time you have to take a calculated risk and believe in your organizations culture to produce great results given you have adequately talented resource available.

    2. If you are asking candidate to solve live products problems and candidate doesnt get selected or accept the offer the solutions and insight can be used in the product without candidate getting monetory benefit or recognition for efforts.
