I worked at rue21 part-time (More than 5 years)
I've had a great experience with rue21 overall. Selling fragrance wasn't too hard for me. Great customers in my area (not saying there weren't bad ones) and Associate Appreciation days were great! Management wise, you always stayed busy.
Low pay. District managers don't show appreciation for management like they should. They will talk like what they are paying and doing is great and "above standard" but IT'S NOT. Not meeting a fragrance goal is the end of the world to them, and they will belittle you on conference calls. TASKING TASKING TASKING. This company will make you fold an item for a table item from shipment (too much for what a table can even hold), make you hang it the next day because of new direction, THEN turn around and make you fold it over again the next occurring day. Tedious stuff rather than focusing on CUSTOMERS.
Advice to Management
TREAT EMPLOYEES WITH RESPECT. As an employee working both sides of the spectrum, I treated my associates with more respect than I did other managers. I would help clean the store, fold, go backs, etc. because I knew how hard it was to be told to do a task that would take about an hour total, and receive NO HELP. Also, don't be stingy with fragrance sales, If they are trying, that is all that matters. And as far as tasks, I would honestly save day tasks to be done after hours. It's too much to have to get a fitting room, do a visual, do a table change, and help check out customers.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at rue21.
I walked in got her name started talking to the manager we then went out and sat and some chairs she asked me some generic questions and that was about it.
