What did you save previous employers?

As a consultant, part of your previous work may have been to help a company trim—its spending, its energy usage, its whatever. If you have helped a company save money or reduce other important factors, include those numbers! Think: time saved, site bounce rate lowered, or budget, client, employee turnover reduced.

Illustrate what makes you an expert.

Understanding how frequently you performed certain tasks goes a long way in helping recruiters and hiring managers reading your resume understand how well-versed you are in a given area—often, the only difference between being a novice and being an expert is how much time you spend practicing.

Communication is key.

As a consultant, you have got to distill your expert knowledge to others, and that takes killer communication skills. So, edit your resume for grammar and spelling, but also for clarity. Rewrite long sentences to be shorter, then read your resume out loud to make sure all of your thoughts make sense. Prove your communication skills by email and phone by being brief and to-the-point whenever you interact with the recruiter.
