I have been working at Électricité de France full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Benefits, employee perks (occasional free lunches), matched 401K, physically active job. Somewhat responsive managers.

    Cons

Reactive company policy on safety. Lower and middle management is constantly run ragged. Loads of OT during maintenance cycles (can be good or bad). Pathetic formalized training. Employee training is based on learning from your coworkers. Pay is below industry standard. Feels like working at the jiffy lube of the wind turbine industry.

    Advice to Management

Create a solid training program, increase pay to competitive levels. Hire a secretary for paperwork.

    Pros

Solid company in a volatile industry. Good benefits and kind coworkers.

    Cons

Poor base salary with a potential to earn a good bonus but the bonus is at the sole discretion of your direct manager and if they don't like you, you will simply not get much. HR is poor and I am aware of a few instances that they managed poorly. They won't fire bad employees and instead they just move people around.

    Advice to Management

You are lucky that you are one of the few renewable companies in the San Diego region. If you were located in the Bay Area, your employee turnover would have been a lot higher.

I worked at Électricité de France full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People overall are nice but not very welcoming. Coming in at a higher title, required information is not freely shared.

    Cons

Very unstructured, resistant to establishing and follow processes and procedures. There is an unbalanced favoritism, a new employee will always be under the shadow and unfavored compared to a known employee when there are concerns regarding regarding business practices.

    Advice to Management

When polices are developed and time for implementation, follow through with the process and not continuously change it because another individual want to manipulate the process to gain favoritism with management. When processes are not followed and continuously changed mistakes will always be made. Stay consistent, it save money for the company and establish structure.

I worked at Électricité de France full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A great place to start and grow. Good starting salaries and performance based bonuses. Many young professionals keep it competitive; many whom are hungry to move up. Good training programs and opportunities to jump to other areas if you can show initiative. Very flexible in terms of family/work life. If the company is successful, everyone enjoys the spoils.

    Cons

UK/NA/Paris office differ in culture and direction. Sometimes it seems as though the EDF machine stalls with lack of clear objectives. There are some that have been there since the Lehman era that have hit a wall and really don't bring anything new to the company. Retention for top talent is not great. Bonuses for trading isn't just performance or book based but how the company does overall. Some good performing traders get shafted while others who get by reap in the benefits.

    Advice to Management

It's hard to steer the North American ship with UK and Paris at the helm but try to become more independent. Great business model.

I worked at Électricité de France full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a great work atmosphere. Culture and Values are very good. Compensation and Bonus structure is very nice. Good amount of perks. Back Office is well structured but its too top heavy.

    Cons

Company has no sense of direction, Back Office is ok, but Front Office downsizes alot and then hires alot, retention rate is terrible. Senior Mgmt gives out mixed signals on growth. They do not take risks at all.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to structure EDF's relationship with EDF Trading in London, and figure out the relationship between EDF Trading in London with EDF Trading North America.
