I worked at ...and company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For the most part, the team members are friendly. The Print Team of And Company is extremely talented and accomplished.

    Cons

The Digital Team is making strides slowly in the digital advertising. The majority of the digital workload is creating banner ads, which is incredibly boring, non-creative and labor intensive. Furthermore, upper management is unfriendly and unfair.

    Pros

The environment is relaxed and the lower-level employees all get along very well. The non-compensation based benefits are great.

    Cons

The company owners have no knowledge of how to run a business and have little interest in the employees if it is not a direct benefit to them. As a general rule, the employees are yelled at, disregarded, and treated unfairly.

    Pros

... and company is built on a group of young up and comers in the advertising industry. The company has a pretty relaxed atmosphere and lots of opportunities to learn as many aspects of the industry as you'd like. This is a wonderful place for someone extremely driven and eager to learn. The employees that are most successful are those that are eager, diligent, and detail oriented. The company has a pretty flat management hierarchy and has clear structure lines, meaning you know who you answer too. In more of a frivolous sense ...and company does a great job building the team through monthly birthday, occasional cocktail hours at and after work, beach days, great holiday party, Monday morning breakfasts, occasional catered lunches and dinners for those that have to work long hours.

    Cons

As much as working with a young group is great it is also to the detriment of the company. There were little training opportunities for younger project management staff, aside from learning by the example of the senior staff. There is always something said for learning textbook advertising and the client management techniques behind it. Overall the company has been going through some growing pains, how to stay a 'cool' company with bringing a level of structure in and not becoming corporate. How this will unravel will determine the success of the organization. Overall the pros far outweigh the cons.

    Advice to Management

As an entry-level employee one of the things that would be most beneficial is to get a clear vision of the direction of the company and the goals of the position and how to find success within the position and most of all at the company. Generation Z, which is most of the employees, want to be a part of something is bigger than them and really feel like they can make an impact.

I worked at ...and company full-time

    Pros

Great projects to work on. Some amazingly talented people who do the actual work. It can be a lot of fun at times. The actual talent is amazing. From the head Art Director to the people who handle uploading files, these are great people. They do have moments to actually have you let your hair down.

    Cons

The people who don't do the actual work are no talents. They do walk around like they are. Frustrating. Terrible hours and much is due to them deciding they are the client and make up fake deadlines to show they are in control. The Human Resources department was great and then imploded. The place went haywire after that.

    Advice to Management

Not a lot to say to upper management. That area is the problem. The owners are good people. One is an great designer. The other is a solid sales person and money guy but very bright. Problem is there is a disconnect with what goes on with the day to day. There are two Sr VP's and neither can do anything but take a meeting or pick up a phone. If you are not part of their "circle", you are not going to last there and there is a lot of turnover. Do not expect a career there unless you want to be underpaid and treated by those without talent like you have no idea.

Also, the one owner has pet projects and though he wants the people to follow protocol on deadlines within the system except with those and whatever one planned on, now takes a back seat to those projects. You are told to follow rules until they change them which is at a whim.

    Pros

They value and listen to their employees. Lots of perks like weekly breakfasts, holiday parties, etc. Long hours, but that's expected with any creative company. The designers are divas and well paid for it.

    Cons

It's still a relatively small business so promotions don't occur often.
