I worked at 10Up full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    * You will have the opportunity to work with enterprise-level clients. * 10up puts an emphasis on clean code and doing things the right way. * Telling people in the industry that you work at 10up means something. * The people in leadership positions really do care about helping you grow. * Lots of room for advancement if you can stick with it. * The compensation and benefits are really good. Cons

The negative parts of the job apply to any remote agency. If you are good at managing your time, are a good communicator, and can solve problems, you will do fine at 10up.

I have been working at 10Up full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Remote work environment provides a great work/life balance and anything that pops up that you need to handle is easily accommodated for. -Management is very friendly and involved and wants to see you succeed. -Annual summit provides a great way to travel and meet the team in person for a rewarding experience. -Even though the company is fully remote, frequent video check-ins assure you that you are on track or help...

    Cons

-It can be hard to stay fully focused and engaged throughout the day at a fully remote job and requires an adjustment period if coming from a non remote company. -Because the industry is always changing and expanding, it is hard to feel like you have job security at a remote agency.

    Cons

10up is a distributed company with brilliant people from all over the world but working remotely is not for everyone. Also, challenging agency work is not for everyone either. While I consider these two factors Pros some might find these as Cons.

I have been working at 10Up full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Team is very friendly & approachable - Company has a positive reputation (which is fun to be a part of!) - Leaders seem intentional about growth - Onboarding/orientation process has a great structure (I was impressed!)

    Cons

    - Agency environment is fast-paced (it’s helpful to expect this going in) - Harder to turn off after hours due to being remote and working with team members across different time zones

    I have been working at 10Up full-time

    Pros

Great coworkers, positive and professional leadership, growth strategies. This company really cares about its employees and has some of the best open communication I've seen at a business. Remotely working means you have some flexibility in your schedule and gives you the freedom to manage your time according to your workload.

    Cons

Haven't seen any big cons yet.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the positive reinforcement and encouragement of your employees. Not very many businesses use this as a tactic (that I've seen) and it really is the best way to keep your team feeling motivated and appreciated.

I worked at 10Up full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

In my over 3 years at 10up, I learned a whole lot about becoming a better engineer, and a better professional. 10up demands that all of their engineers perform at a very high level and expects that any engineer will be client facing and have ownership of their particular discipline on any given project. There are frequent touch points but it is on the individual to understand the issues related to their work and communicate...

    Cons

Agency work is not for everyone. The burn rate of many projects especially those with international teams can become overwhelming. The constant accountability for billable hours and requirement to be focused and running at the top of your game for 8 to 10 hours a day 5 to 7 days a week, can take its toll on people. I think that larger teams for some disciplines would really help alleviate some of that burnout. The...

    Advice to Management

Hire more systems people, its ok to have guys sit on their hands a few weeks out of the year. I know there are lots of internal metrics that the resourcing picture for this discipline is based on. But running a very small team leads to higher rates of burnout and gives so little room for any mistake or error.

    10Up Response

    January 22, 2018President

Thank you for the feedback. Absolutely fair to say that succeeding at 10up requires one to be comfortable with the nature of most agency work: tracking time and serving multiple clients. It's also fair to say that the "multiple clients" challenge is especially felt within Systems ...

I worked at 10Up full-time for more than a year

    Pros

100% remote Top-notch people High quality work Adequate payscale Good benefits

    Cons

The hourly billing model causes an overfocus on time tracking and detracts from focusing on results. Many of the project managers have inadequate technical experience which sometimes leads to misunderstanding what the engineers are saying and miscommunicating with the clients.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to de-emphasize the focus on time tracking and refocus on doing the job right, regardless of how long it takes.
