Do research and stop basing your decisions off hearsay. Some of the worst people that I've ever work with works hear. The stairway smells like marijuana on some days.

I have been working at 1199SEIU Funds full-time

    Pros

Annual pay increases, no co-pay or payroll contributions to medical benefits

    Cons

Many unprofessional, disorganized, condescending people dwell within this organization. There is no accountability for mistakes, and management picks and chooses who they will give leverage to. There is extreme favoritism in this company and for an organization that prides itself on helping others with their health, there are many unhealthy people working within the company itself: mentally and physically.

    Advice to Management

Hold those who don't work hard accountable, stop playing favorites, be kinder to the staff, and encourage those who work hard. Also, stop with all of the lavish parties and wasting of funds and give your employees merit rewards at the end of the year.

I worked at 1199SEIU Funds full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Health benefits are great. However vision and dental are not. Can work at your pace if you lack motivation and have a poor workout ethic

    Cons

Bargaining employees sometimes create conflict at the behest of delegates. New employees are advised that Management is an enemy when absolutely not true. Employees believe they are entitled to upgrades but lack the skills in current position. The BFSA buys into complaints without verifying.
Employees push back on opportunities to improve skills and knowledge so bad employees are simply recycled throughout the Fund due to seniority.

    Advice to Management

This is directed to HR. Follow through on the policies involving problem employees. These employees impede the goals of the Fund. At some point the Fund will see the consequences of lack of leadership and keeping bad employees.
