I have been working at 1901 Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

To put it simply, if you do your job well and don't make complaining a habit, 1901 will take care of you.

    Cons

Not personal experience, but I've seen colleagues who were promised a promotion and are still in the same position.

    Advice to Management

Continue promoting those with the proper qualifications and experience.

I have been working at 1901 Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of potential for growth within the company, nice co-workers.

    Cons

Terrible management, very big lack of planning, everything bad thing that happens is a disaster, management will not hesitate to throw someone under the bus and fire them if it will make the customer happy (don't expect any kind of loyality).

    Advice to Management

Hire some people with actual management experience to manage (especially on the Service Desk).

I have been working at 1901 Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent leadership team who will provide you with the runway you want to take on any challenge no matter your age, gender or experience.

    Cons

If you have a very strong work ethic, and are willing to put in the hours, this company will pay dividends. However, if you just want a 9-5 job, this is not the place to do it. They look to promote those who are passionate and driven, not someone who just passes the time.

    Advice to Management

While our senior leadership is A+, a lot of the companies decisions are made by a few people. 1901 Group would continue to grow in talent if the tiers below the executive team were able to make more of the decisions. This will lead to reduced bottlenecks and greater job satisfaction.

"This is a company for self starters"

I have been working at 1901 Group full-time

    Pros

If you're good at what you do and motivated to work and put in your own hours for self improvement then there's no limit to the opportunities at this company.

Company provides training materials and pays for certification tests, successful completion of certifications come with a raise. For some employees who excel in their field classroom led or online courses are also paid for.

Free food and drinks in the kitchen, lunch bought by management fairly regularly.

Company has a startup feel with the quality and quantity of your work having a direct effect on the successfulness of the company.

Able to work from home if desired/needed.

Great team atmosphere, everyone friendly and happy to assist each other when needed.

Great health, dental and vision insurance, 401k, life insurance.

    Cons

Work life balance leaves something to be desired. All engineers have far more work than time leading to long hours however putting in extra time and effort does not go unnoticed by management.

Below average salary for the area, 401k is not matched.

I'd also like to add that the reviews on Glassdoor I've seen lately complaining about $10.50/hour for a "technical job" are somewhat inaccurate. As I stated before compensation at 1901 is below industry standard overall however no where near the level of $10.50/hour. I feel that these reviews are misleading. I can only imagine these are coming from the "Tier 0" department which was recently created to help with call volume on the actual technicians. This is not a "technical job" as they describe, the job is to answer the phone and create tickets, there is no technical work. The position is meant as an entry point into the IT field for people with no technical background or experience. They are able to work in this position a limited amount of time while they study and obtain certifications to become more qualified before being promoted to the help desk/NOC or moving to another job.

    Advice to Management

Offer higher pay across the board. The training and experience is great but without more competitive salaries you will never retain your best employees. If people aren't happy with their salary the quality of their work will suffer. In the long run a general pay increase will pay for itself.

    Pros

Pay, health benefits free lunches on Fridays, paid hollidays

    Cons

The CEO philosophy is an assembly line approach to IT. We juggle a ton of clients , and contracts. Go from one trouble ticket to another. It's absurd. Can you say sweat shop? Ooooh...free food...yay...

    Advice to Management

Run this company a different way or expect to burn through a ton of employees

I have been working at 1901 Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly, comfortable work environment. The company is still small enough that management seeks to know their employees as individuals and cares about investing in their teams.

    Cons

There could be more interaction between the Reston and Blacksburg offices.

    Cons

All of this and other sums it up. Nothing to add.

"hiring technical support at 10.50 and hour...really?"

I have been working at 1901 Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They're growing but government contracting takes time. The investment in people is pretty good and they do try to keep their top talent. For the most part, I very much enjoy working with bright, energetic people and that's what they have. They were recently CMMI/ISO certified level 3 which was nice. Management does listen to workers and tries to improve, at least as long as the investment in that improvement makes sense for the company as a whole.

    Cons

They sometimes get sidetracked by investments that don't pan out. They have reorganized again recently and I don't know if it will provide the right way forward.

    Advice to Management

Be open to suggestions about what things need to be done inside the company.
