    Pros

Autonomy. Make no mistake about it, you are on your own. Now, if you are an experienced salesperson in solar, then this shouldn't be a big deal.

    Cons

You will get paid on time for your first couple of deals. This is your honeymoon. The goal of the company is to get you to put up as many sales as they can get out of you, then wait for as long as possible for you to quit. You will likely have to wait 6 to 9 months for your best deals to come in, and the company will use all kinds of excuses, legit and manufactured, to delay the installation. In NYC, it takes about 2...

    Advice to Management

Leave NYC alone because your clients and your competition think you are stain on the industry. Hire competent people to do installs wherever you go, and change your name because your reputation precedes you. Compensate your salespeople ON TIME!!!

I worked at 1st Light Energy for more than a year

    Pros

You get to learn valuable skills such as marketing and salesmanship while on your own time. Solar is a pretty good market currently, so if you put the work in, you can make some decent money. Beats an hourly job if you can risk living 100% on commission. The people you work with are great people and the company culture is not uptight at all.

    Cons

Managers are young, inexperienced, and lead by telling, not by doing, except for Todd Steck. 100% commission, so if you fall short, have a backup source of income. Company frontend and backend operations terrible a communicating and organization; customers frequently complained about sluggish progress with getting their systems, as well as never getting their referral checks. Company CONSISTENTLY wanted to mitigate...

    Advice to Management

Actually put reps first and focus on recruiting quality reps while bringing in decent leads. Quality reps come from properly screening and evaluating potential sales reps by analyzing their CV's/backgrounds, not picking up people off the street. Spend less time talking about how "you're done" because you have knocked doors for 8 years selling alarms in Texas and continue to foster those hard working habits in current/future...

I have been working at 1st Light Energy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Aggressive commission structure, fast clean installs, passionate leaders, room and support for growth, detailed new hire training, in house software developers creating intuitive sales tools

    Cons

Sometimes too conservative, most executive admins are on west coast, low volume of company provided leads (commissions structured towards self generation)

I worked at 1st Light Energy

    Pros

Pays well. Usually flexible with your schedule. They have a really good product and treat their customers with respect.

    Cons

Paychecks are usually wrong and you have to wait until the next pay period to get the money they owe you. Management doesn't seem to care about lower level people. They are very cheap. They won't get rid of people who should be fired.

    Advice to Management

Be more consistent with rewarding good employees and disciplining bad ones. Fix pay roll problems. Be more generous with employees.

I have been working at 1st Light Energy

      Pros

The management of the company really does care about its employees and wants to make things better for them. I'm paid on time and according the agreements as a sales rep for the company.

      Cons

With constant BPI, it can be difficult to learn everything and thus makes it difficult to help customers in the best way all the time.
