I worked at 22nd Century Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A great HR team who took care of my needs and were very responsive. Hired on at 22nd Century and was later moved to a subsidiary of the company. The 22nd Century team and Program Manager at the location where I worked was great! This company will provide opportunities and employment if you are agile, produce results, and flexible. If I was actively in the job market and there was a position that was a good fit, I would not hesitate to apply to work for this company.

    Cons

As with any contractor position, no matter the company, there can be uncertainty when the contract is up for re-bid or option years renewed. Though with any employer to a degree, there are no guarantees and everyone is replaceable.

    Advice to Management

    None.

I have been working at 22nd Century Technologies full-time

    Pros

Only pro so far is we have had an annual review, and *should* be receiving an increase.

They did make 1 benefit change in the past year: They now give 2 days PER YEAR that can be used for either Jury Duty or Bereavement leave. Still terrible but better than the 0 days they gave.

The PM is great and is constantly trying to get the companies benefits improved but he is usually stonewalled.

    Cons

    Still many cons:

-Start at a below market 80 hours/year vacation leave and 3 days/year sick leave. Must be with the company 5 years before the leave accrual rate bumps up. Well this is a problem because the contract is 5 years, and there is a good chance they will not win the re-compete!

I tried to negotiate more leave when i was hired and was shot down with no room for negotiation. Absolutely no flexibility!

-5 year full vesting period for 401(k). I've been with many companies where you are fully vested IMMEDIATELY.

-I do not participate in the companies health insurance so I am unsure how this compares to other companies.

-When I was hired, on-boarding documents were passed back and forth via commercial email unencrypted. Company needs to develop and secure method to send documents back and forth.

    Advice to Management

If you expect to be able to hire good people and keep the good people you have, you must make your benefits competitive! Current benefits are below market at best. And be more flexible when people want to negotiate benefits. I know for a fact I am not the only one who was forcibly shot down when trying to negotiate anything. Poor business practice!
