    I worked at 343 Industries

    Pros

Tons of talent! As someone new to the industry, there was lots to learn and plenty of inspiration. Management was also fairly well structured. Even as an intern I was able to work directly with a manager to set up meetings when they were necessary for my work. For an intern, pay was decent as well.

    Cons

Lots of meetings (sometimes unnecessary, sometimes not). Decisions aren't always up to the development team, and are often left up to high-ups at Microsoft that don't necessarily have a whole lot of involvement throughout the rest of the development process.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing, seems like things are handled pretty well considering the size of the company.

I have been working at 343 Industries full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great work-life balance, generous benefits package, generous pay

    Cons

Horrible tools / technology, complete lack of honesty between management and employees, production decisions strictly made by committee & bureaucracy, an entrenched senior leadership and management cabal driven by cronyism and favoritism, employees not empowered or trusted to do what they are hired for, utter lack of vision from highest levels of leadership, absolutely no accountability for senior management and leadership...

I have been working at 343 Industries full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Tons of talent at the studio. Very collaborative. Directors and leads are always receptive to everyone's input. Never a shortage of cool ideas going around. Company treats employees well, with good pay and good benefits. More stable than most studios. The Halo universe is chalk full of cool things to work on and be a part of. Never a shortage of awesome things going on.

    Cons

Tech and tools are a bit dated, difficult to use, and sometimes limited in what can be done. Once you've ramped up with everything, you'll need the right combination of creativity and technical abilities to build innovative stuff that is taken for granted with other game engines. Quite a bit of ambiguity at the moment, though things are slowly coming together. Some management and production peeps still struggle to grasp...

I have been working at 343 Industries for more than a year

    Pros

I enjoyed some of the people I worked with that understood the position of non-regular hires.

    Cons

You are treated as a lesser employee if you are not full time. If you are an A- or V- you are reminded daily by the things you are not included in that regular hire employees do receive.

I have been working at 343 Industries full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work on some exciting IP with some bright people, looks great on a resume

    Cons

Brutal technical debt, culture of confusing and obscure code names, the absolute opposite of an agile, cutting edge tech company

    Advice to Management

I have no idea how you'd fix a company this broken

I have been working at 343 Industries

    Pros

Having the backing of Microsoft means there's job security, and plenty of researchers/alpha technologies that want to help you adopt the latest technologies into the game. If you can make a case for it, some teams are willing to take risks. There are occasional crunches,, but management is trying to get people to be more realistic in what they take on.

    Cons

Right now there's some ambiguity as to the direction the overall franchise will go. There are big plans, but the communication of those plans has been a bit slow. That said, management has been working on better communication.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on communicating a clear vision.

      Pros

Great IP and place to work. A lot of big name and amazing industry professionals working there.

      Cons

The studio is often biting off more than it can chew and suffers from short hard deadlines.
