More Pros and Cons

  1. "Corporate Environment Was Catty"

I worked at Aéropostale as an intern

    Pros

HR was helpful when I contacted them.

    Cons

    -Got coffee
    -Got lunch
-Was passed around as an intern to other departments (when other interns were never utilized)
-Had to run around NYC buying garments from other companies so Aero could copy them. Many times I was asked to do these tasks in the evening, so I had to work late. One Friday night I got back to the office by 8pm and was locked out.
    -Pay was not worth it
-I felt disrespected, humiliated, and unwanted on a daily basis

I worked at Aéropostale full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are absolutely no pros, in my opinion, working for this company.

    Cons

Cliques, poor upper management, lack of training, lack of support

    Advice to Management

They really need to put a proper training regime in place and stop playing favorites.

  3. "Horrible"

I worked at Aéropostale (More than a year)

    Pros

    Sometimes has good managers working

    Cons

Horrible store manager (when I worked there, store managers change often) terrible work hours, not enough pay for what we do, doesn't help protect their workers

    Advice to Management

When you know someone has been threatened, don't allow those people into the store.

    Pros

    Getting to help customers
    30% discount

    Cons

    Bias and judgemental general manager
    Poor training

    Advice to Management

Work on your store managers people skills and have managers go through pro for training on harassment and miss treatment of staff

I worked at Aéropostale (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was a wonderful experience while they were privately owned - they used to give bonuses, the type of customer used to be respectful and friendly, we had more time to develop management with better career path.

    Cons

I only gave a 3 stars because of how amazing they used to be. They became fast fashion brand and forgot about their core customers, their values and treating employees with dignity. As a store manager the load became unbearable for me, management and the few employees that stayed (for minimum wage). We were worked to almost death, hours were constantly being cut back and the workload was constantly increasing, and no more bonuses for going above targeted goals and meeting the crazy workloads. But hey, at least the Instagram Influencers were getting paid their bonus, they should've had them working in one of the stores, seen if they would've survived with the company.

    Advice to Management

Stop burning out your employees. Take advice from the founders of Aeropostale, when they cared for the people who worked for them and their customers. The ratings below are based on the current system and not on the older Aero company (which I would have rated with a 5).

    Cons

high workload with low payroll expectations. Which means management staff is working long hours.

I worked at Aéropostale part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Clean working conditions, 30-50% discounts on merchandise.

    Cons

Management expects you to work off the clock and without pay, rarely gave legally mandated breaks to minors, embarrassed employees, management sat around and did not do work.

    Advice to Management

Grow up. Stop acting like children and making fun of employees to make yourself feel better about yourself.

I worked at Aéropostale full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ability to transfer just about anywhere and travel across the state/country to help out other stores.

    Cons

They've made up a concept called "half time" to where they can work you over 40 hours a week, but instead of paying you time and a half, they pay you only half of your hourly rate. I believe there was even a lawsuit filed because the ambiguity revolving around this concept. They also don't respect Reservists' (anyone in the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Reserve) training schedules. Not worth the money at all.

    Advice to Management

Treat your managers better and they might stay longer. Respect all Reservists; we can't control our schedule and we're serving our country!

I have been working at Aéropostale part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the people are great to work with.

    Cons

Pay sucks for SL "Manager." Position is only a "glorified associate" position. You do all the things an assistant does and get paid way less. Our DM hasn't realized the great talent that there was and has lost a lot of great employees simply for not doing raises (which is what they deserved).

    Advice to Management

Recognize the amazing talent. That's why they have left/will continue to leave. SL deserves to be a part time AM position. Employee morale is low because of the lack of raises. There's a TON of work expected of everyone of us but how are we supposed to be motivated without proper pay?
I've hated working for this company, and I won't be surprised if they go bankrupt again.
    -From a very disappointed SL
