I worked at Aéropostale full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

fun environment depending on your team. the part timers i worked with were awesome (the new people) and few of the older ones as well. The discounts are pretty reasonable and insurance isn't so bad.

    Cons

The store i worked at had to REAL team comradery about it. Communication was horrible!!! The manager has been with the company forever and she seems to be very close minded, over-worked and underpayed, therfore bitter. She wasn't very fair in the scheduling and they just seemed very petty and dysfunctional.

    Advice to Management

When you get new management try to be more welcoming and embrace them. Appreciate and acknowledge your hard workers and treat people equally and with respect!!!

I worked at Aéropostale part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

you have room to grow and move up. (if your manager is willing to help you with it)

    Cons

my last manager i had to deal with fed me nothing but lies about talking me up to the district manager and never did.
i also never got a raise within the 2 years i worked there.

    Advice to Management

stop picking favorites and feeding your whole sales team a bunch of lies and then maybe you guys will be able to act like a team.

I worked at Aéropostale full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The casual setting allows you to learn organizational skills interpersonal skills and customer service tactics without feeling dramatically stressed. Leadership skills.

    Cons

However working for this company means you're more than likely going to be subjected to mall hours and often overnights, holidays, and extended hours. There isn't a set schedule and you'll work overtime for sure. Also in a full time position you will be salaried and that means you're overtime is only half time pay.

    Advice to Management

Personality shouldn't be the only thing that gets you the position. The job entails a lot more work than a personable individual.

I worked at Aéropostale full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - I've met some of my best friends at this company and worked with some of the most talented managers in my career here, but all the talented and skilled workers have mostly left and gone to better companies with more financial security

    Cons

    - upper management contradicts itself too often telling you the opposite of what was said the previous week and trying to convince you they never told you that.
    - management is expected to work a minimum of 40 hours, with task loads requiring 50-70 hours a week most weeks for store management to do (only get paid for 40 as a store manager, and as an assistant you get paid halftime (half your hourly wage, not overtime) for anything over 40).
    - even after the company was "saved" from bankruptcy, you still feel like the company is doing poorly financially and isn't really secure in the marketplace (hint: it's not secure at the present moment and likely won't be again (look at GGP and Simon mall stock prices for reference since Aero has been delisted)).
    - the three regional managers and some district managers that are left are the only ones left for a reason (the good ones are the ones that all got better jobs, the bad ones got left behind -- they'll try to convince you otherwise but it's apparent if you've worked under better management before compared to the trash that's left behind)

    Advice to Management

Learn to treat your managers better, especially the ones that have been there the longest, and invest in the new ones again. Training/coaching got put on the back burner and new management doesn't feel invested in or is trained to feel confident in their jobs which explains the higher rates of turnover.

    I worked at Aéropostale part-time

    Pros

Great discounts! Got to use my discount on top of the sale and clearance items!

    Cons

Worked there for almost 3 years and never got more than minimum wage. I was doing the same amount as a key holder but never got recognized for it.
