I worked at Aéropostale part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There was a good work environment with friendly coworkers and nice location. The managers were all very helpful and made sure everyone felt comfortable working at Aero.

    Cons

The work can sometimes feel tedious and repetitive and can also get tiring because there's a lot of interaction with people for long periods of time, but if you like that, then I'd definitely recommend working in retail.

    Advice to Management

It's unfortunate that Aeropostale had to file for bankruptcy because I thought that the company was very good to its employees and to its customers.

I worked at Aéropostale full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked with the best team of people. Many of them I am still in contact with even after a couple of years. The teamwork, the laughter, the enjoyment of working together was why I stayed as long as I did.

    Cons

Terrible work life balance. I had a child with a learning disability, who needed daily help with homework during the week. I couldn't close the 1-10 shift Monday through Thursday. I would do Friday or Saturday closings no problem. My fellow managers were incredibly supportive, but upper management told me that my expectation to be off in the evenings for my child were 'not realistic in the retail world'.

    Advice to Management

I loved my job there. If they had been more flexible, they wouldn't have lost a good employee. From what I understood I was to put Aero above the needs of my child - management at the company should know that no mother should ever be asked to do that.

I worked at Aéropostale part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of hours during busy season, working in a social setting, discounts on merchandise, floor sets overnight were productive and kept fun, and ability to be promoted.

    Cons

Sometimes they made you feel bad about taking time off or sick days. Some managers had you do tasks while on break, and promotions didn't come with a pay raise.

    Advice to Management

Remind your managers and assistants to still be a team player and respectful to associates. Also, don't have associates do small tasks while on break.
