I worked at A+E Networks (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nothing to speak of at all

    Cons

Location, crappy office, crappy senior management, a delusional and grossly immature CEO who acts like the eldest sibling agitating a dysfunctional family

    Advice to Management

Fire Nancy. There is no excuse for morale this bad and ratings this low. She fired the orignators of her most successful properties because she is shortsighted, trigger happy and an absolute toddler of a CEO who has overseen gross labor violations. Reducing departments, rehirng the staff she just laid off shortly thereafter while passing over permalance employees whose tenure at this dump is way past the legal limits. It is mind boggling how this joke of a company stays afloat...and how does nancy sleep at night?

I worked at A+E Networks as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Pros: Flex-time, Location, Dress casual

    Cons

    Where do I begin?
This company lacks transparency, does not empower employees unless you work on 10E, morale declined rapidly, people are doing 2 sometimes 3 peoples jobs at once, some people who were made to be "full-time staff" should have never been hired as they are unprofessional and lack professional decorum. HR is not for the people working there but to represent the company. If the budget is so low as you claim, why hire so many directors?
No room for growth or ability to work into have the time to be preoccupied with non work related things like gossiping and over socializing.
What happens when something becomes too top heavy?--It falls flat on its face.

    Advice to Management

How many more people must be fired or willfully leave?
You are either choosing to be ignorant or careless. You all have been there 10 + years. No more excuses and colorful language to hide what everyone knows.
Fight like a family? HA! You wouldn't treat your worst enemy like this. You are NOT our family. You are lies, smokescreens, plenty of top level management, and failed attempts to be cutting edge.

If you are interested in working in Media, work here two years tops. Then apply to a better Media corp or a company that embraces the direction the industry is going.

I worked at A+E Networks (Less than a year)

    Pros

Various cable networks under one roof. Also close knit is groups of departments makes it nice however only if you fit in. Even if you do fit in, much of that comraderie is filled with dismay of the company or other employees in the organization.

    Cons

The diligent efforts of very capable employees get zero recognition. Promotions are handed out to people within in we circles. Many times these promoted individuals lack the competency for the job. A+E used to be a place where you'd stay for your entire career, but they do not value their hard working employees. If you are looking to find a quality position and or career in the entertainment industry, don't work here.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and look past your Rolex and value the little people that do all the hard work to make you look good.

I have been working at A+E Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Very attractive benefits and incentives.

    Cons

    -A wholly ageist organization.
-The company is bogged down with failed process and procedures.
-Cronyism is exhibited from the top down.
-Misleading three pronged total comp--benefits and incentives don't add up.
-Corporate values are trumpeted loudly but never realized by the organization.

    Advice to Management

Fish rots from the head. Attract better senior management in programming to produce stronger and more unique programming and good things will trickle down to the employee.

    Pros

Laid back attitude, you could wear jeans.

    Cons

They would rather give up great workers than pay anyone a cutting edge salary. They hire contract workers to get out of paying benefits. If you are offered a full time position they offer less than you make as contract, stating that the benefits make up for the cash. Don't believe a word they say. They'll string you along for years with delusions that you will become full time. Sometimes it takes more than 5 years. Absolutely ridiculous

    Advice to Management

Pay quality people what they are worth and you will have a quality company, instead of the revolving door that it currently is.

    Pros

Still has a few substantive creative people and business advisers. There are some people who are doing their best to right the ship. Good benefits package.

    Cons

No leadership on any level, but particularly failing at c suite level. Legal and HR are the worst of it. There are few adults on the scene and truth is a relative concept. The CEO is surrounded by people who only tell her what she wants to hear.

    Advice to Management

    Change course soon.

    Pros

Fantastic benefits. Bereavement leave was generous (and unexpected).

    Cons

Terrible and confrontational culture full of intimidation, favoritism, high-level incompetence and arrogance that is unwarranted considering everything we do is failing. Not a diverse environment, and company refuses to invest in modern infrastructure - computer situation is straight from the 1990's.

    Advice to Management

New leadership is needed, people who actually have a long term vision and a strategic mind to execute that vision.

I worked at A+E Networks (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a network so you can learn the basic processes and functions of departments at a network.

    Cons

They don't promote. Not sure A+E will be around when the system of delivery changes for TV. It's a very 80s atmosphere. It's a company where older execs go work to pull a salary to pay their mortgage and kid's tuition, and hire all their irrelevant friends. It's not a company that's competing. They don't appreciate quality or new ideas. Look at their content. The LA office is run by women who spend more time gossiping about the CEO's outfits than they do actually doing their jobs. You won't get inspiration or team-building from them. They just don't care about the company. As a result, the young people are forced out for caring and, thereby, posing a threat. it's kind of shocking what goes on there, really. If you're young, it will kill your spirit to work there. Don't do it.

    Advice to Management

Raise expectations and actually manage. Change regime in LA and give LA office a boss. C-level of the company is in NYC and come out to LA maybe three times a year for events. Can anyone be expected to best the competition when you don't even have a boss to answer to and your job and salary are secure no matter what?

    Pros

Seems like a great place to work in other areas of the company.
    Nice offices great food areas.
Great location close by grand central.
Coworkers seemed very nice and knowledgeable.

    Cons

Management is absurd, Heavy Micromanagement is an understatement to how the IT Help Desk is being run.
I was constantly afraid to even leave my chair to go to the bathroom because we would be scolded how long we were gone for. I was scared to pick up calls from my spouse or kids cause, I felt like my work mother was scolding me on a daily basis. I wouldnt talk to my kids the way I was spoken too and treated.
Everyone here is a Consultant. A&E I guess doesn't want to invest in anyone for long term.
People here have worked 6 years or more before being offered a salary based position with benefits. Also I feel there is a lot of reverse discrimination since IT management is run only by females and they act like all men around them are stupid. If you like being micromanaged and treated like a child to work in a place that real has no long term future for any of its IT staff, then this is the place for you. Otherwise Run!

    Advice to Management

Let people be people. We're humans not dogs. Investing in people means offering full time positions with benefits and a future at your company, not the feeling that you can be discarded like trash and that your worthless.

    I worked at A+E Networks full-time

    Pros

benefits for full-time workers are competitive. work does not continue past work hours and into your personal life unless you are the one responsible for that. culturally, after hours work is reserved for those being compensated at a senior exec level. anything less than VP, your personal time is normally respected. Weekends are your weekends.

    Cons

communication is poor, no central extranet systems, too many departments with their own operating systems - no universality across the company. Many departments do exercises that come to no fruition (too often). Extremely political. senior management are often inept and outdated, dead weight. very gossip driven environment, salary info is freely discussed. C-Suite does not have a wholistic bird's eye view of their own culture and inner workings. company is top heavy with long term freelancers who get mediocre benefits and empty promises of conversion. most departments are skeleton crews. CEO's favored departments get the most resources while other divisions suffer. competitive benefits are used to argue lower than average salaries. very little upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

get up to speed with other major media companies. everything feels amateurish here, from the operations, branding, down to the building itself.
