I have been working at A. O. Smith full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This company offers competitive pay and benefits. For the most part they are family oriented and realize life happens and are accommodating.

    Cons

Project schedule needs work, communication between departments is nonexistent and moral runs low because management doesn't know how to inspire people.

    Advice to Management

Better project scheduling, improve communication between departments

I have been working at A. O. Smith full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a well established global corporation with excellent resources. Many employees work their entire lives for A. O. Smith.

    Cons

Low wages (well below average). Seems like they do what they can to pay you as little as they can get away with.

    Advice to Management

I wish that management would get rid of bad employees, supervisors, managers, etc. Too many good employees are forced to do the work of their lazy co-workers.

I have been working at A. O. Smith full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -compensation in top 30% locally
    -beautiful office/work environment
    -great location, free covered parking
-technology is up to date, e.g. iPhones issued, iPads, etc

    Cons

-women are not promoted...NO C-LEVEL women exist, 13,00+ employees and only one woman in the level below C-Suite
-C-Suite focused on self, poor managers of people
-some departments have high levels of turnover
    -women engineers not promoted
-lack of ethnic diversity, mangers all look like cousins
lots of "values" talk but no paid sick time for hourly workers...what sort of value is that?

    Advice to Management

    pay attention to exit interviews

I worked at A. O. Smith as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked in the technical support dept an enjoyed my work environment for the most part. The supervisors were very helpful and professional. My co-workers were the same as well. Great hours, as I worked 11a-7p M-F an occasional Sat every month.

    Cons

Like any call center environment, it comes down to the numbers. I wasn't the best, but I was very professional in my phone manner and demeanor with customers and co-workers. With that being said, I was let go shortly before being hired on permanently.

I worked at A. O. Smith as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of volunteer opportunities and ways to improve your health such as fitness competitions and encouraging step counts. Successful company, always something going on.

    Cons

It's a water company. If you don't have a passion for water, it can get boring. Also, the culture is very "every man for himself," but maybe that's because I was an intern and nobody cared about me.

    Pros

The people here are good people with solid values and a professional attitude. They seem to genuinely care about their employees and their customers. They have an employee cafeteria, a medical clinic and a gym with a professional trainer, on site. They offer flexible schedules and are considerate of family needs and responsibilities of their employees. You'll find a lot of long time employees still working here.

    Cons

Pay scale is extremely low. Too much work for not enough pay.

    Advice to Management

Better communication channels, clear job descriptions and improved policy and procedures within departments.

    Pros

The pay is tops in the Johnson City TN area.

    Cons

You will most likely work 2nd shift doing repetitive work in a very warm building. You will earn your money. If you cant work hard or handle heat it will be difficult.
