    I worked at A-Star full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ample funds for basic and translational research activities. You usually have some freedom to work on the project you proposed. Good pay and generous annual and personal leaves.

    Cons

No permanent research position in some institutions. Core budget is being cut, so that researchers have to spend more time on grant application.

    I worked at A-Star full-time

    Pros

Good salary, benefits and nice colleagues.

    Cons

Unclear management directions that keeps changing every now and then. Things were better before functionalisation. No worklife balance as you are expected to share/take over workload of other colleagues who left. Lack of training opportunities for corporate staff

    Advice to Management

Please make up your mind about it, plan ahead and give clear directions. You are overworking your existing pool of staff when you choose to freeze headcount. Do give enough time for your staff to streamline the processes and listen to them.Treat your junior officers and senior officers equally. Least, the senior officers be bullied by the junior officers.

I have been working at A-Star full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Wide exposure for portfolio building. Leadership can be more focused in streamlining vision and outlining clearly strategy to grow staff.

    Cons

Remuneration could be better. Many layers of bureaucracy at various places impedes staff motivation to want to stay on much less develop passion.

    Advice to Management

Chances should also be given to non-scholars to advance in career and given more options to learn.
