I have been working at A.T. Cross full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great brand, long heritage, wonderful products, craftsmanship, original US/RI brand, innovation, opportunities in new segments like leather, watches and accessories, be part of a turnaround story

    Cons

Tough business, missing distribution, not enough funding for marketing activities, low brand awareness or relevance, long development processes, too slow and bureaucratic

    Advice to Management

Faster decisions, clearer directions, invest more in non-writing product development, open up for more creative marketing ideas

I worked at A.T. Cross full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great products and people. The leadership group that was in place while I was there was excellent

    Cons

Owned by a PE firm may have led to not giving the executive team enough time to turn the company around. This is completely understandable when considering Cross was not achieving the level of growth that may be expected from a PE firm ownership. Too many products. PE Firm brought in "turn-around" specialists which results in trimming headcount without fully understanding the business.

    Advice to Management

Get back to the fine writing instrument roots of the company with a focus on only those product lines and eliminate the rest.

I worked at A.T. Cross full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Smaller team, up-to-date computers and software

    Cons

Management is hands off on day-to-day tasks, they expect you to work 12 hour days but won't even acknowledge you.. They promote inexperienced staff to take control of what they should be managing themselves. No raises or bonuses, company went from no debt to bleeding cash within two years. Vague or no direction for creative projects, rogue team members "managing" their own work. Absolutely no room for career advancement or growth for a company that prides itself on "making your mark".

    Advice to Management

Stop concerning yourself with b-list celbrity photo ops for your social media and start taking care of the people that make your company function. Customers are important but when you drive talent out then you won't last.
