  1. "Great People, Tech, obit Overworkef"

    Pros

    Great people who are invested in helping you grow. Interesting clients. Incredible leadership conferences.

    Cons

    They really overwork you at all levels - you're never truly off unless you're in vacation on a tropical island that doesn't have wifi! This applies at all levels, but that doesn't make it any better.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more people to do account and administrative work to spread the load just a little. Even a 10% alleviation in workload would really help. Ease up just a bit on folks - if we have a day off, don't ask us to "just call the client/create an email/edit a document."

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

    * Fair/competitive pay/benefits
    * Work from home options
    * Easy location
    * Good cross section of clients
    * Easy parking

    Cons

    * Inadequate senior management style/substance
    * Personal biases harm advancement
    * Workplace dominated by internal 'class system'
    * Bad vibes overall

    Advice to Management

    Avoid the secretive and closed door approach you're taking on as you become more Edelman and less A&R. How? Start by refocusing on people more than the bottomline and corporate processes. You're losing your staff.

    Pros

    Many employees are smart, friendly and helpful
    Some make wonderful managers (though not all)
    Good benefits
    Smaller org in the bigger Edelman pool

    Cons

    Long hours expected
    Compensation/bonus structure quite limited, especially for junior staff
    Sometimes feels like clients are more important to the company than their own employees

    Advice to Management

    Fixing the work/life balance issue would go a long way toward making employees feel appreciated. Of course, compensation always helps too.

    I worked at A&R Edelman as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    A small and tight team full of delightful and extremely talented and capable people. Some very good work for some challenging clients.

    Cons

    A firm within a firm that is often used as a conflict management solution. Possibly a little isolated and in need of some bigger Edelman love. A shame that a much of the excellent work cannot be talked about in order that staff can take their moment in the sun.
