    Pros

The best reason to work for any company is the people you meet and get to be around

    Cons

Poor management, no business development. They try to go after projects that are way too big for the company. There needs to be a focus on filling the voids between small and very large companies.

    Advice to Management

Be onsite and focus on the employees and utilize and market your skill sets and quit trying to compete with GD, Raytheon and other large companies

I worked at AAR full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It's a large stable company with lots of facilities nation-wide. There are many experienced people working there that can teach you every facet of the industry, so when you move on you have some experience.

    Cons

No potential for growth. Severe case of 'Good ol boys' syndrome.
Nepotism in the corporate HQ is rampant.
Most managerial hires are from outside the company rather than promoting from within.
    Stifling PC culture.
Anyone except outside sales are treated as a liability, no matter what their contribution to the company. I once saved Allen over $100k per year and barely got an attaboy, let alone anything else.
Women and minorities are relegated to only work in Accounting, IT, or if they happen to be attractive they can make it in the product line.

    Advice to Management

I would recommend you break the insider culture and promote people based on their skills, not who they go golfing with on company time or who's nephew they are. Treat all employees as assets rather than cost centers. Happy employees that feel valued are more productive and loyal.

    Pros

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to everyone else's job and do your own. Micro management never helps.

I worked at AAR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great climate controlled facility, great co-workers, some room for advancement, Indianapolis is a pretty nice city, has a Symphony Orchestra, great Museum Of Art, excellent triple A baseball team, pro football, pro basketball, and of course, great racing.

    Cons

Long walk from the parking lot to the work dock, tooling is not too good, upper management has forgotten what it's like to be a worker on the floor (if they were ever there)

    Advice to Management

Listen to Lead Mechanics and Supervisors more. They are the ones who know what is going on down where the rubber meets the road. Some of the Project Managers know what it is like on the floor but most do not.

    I worked at AAR full-time

    Pros

Periods of heavy overtime, great coworkers

    Cons

Minimal Pay, complete lack of communication at all levels, employees refered to as numbers, training program with no trainers, if you work to get an aircraft out early expect to be at home until the next one on your line shows up.

    Advice to Management

Hire quality experienced mechanics and pay them equivalent to their experience and create a real training program.

Most of the work force is contract, with many years of experience. Advance form within the company.

    Cons

Low pay, for industry. Benefits not very comparable to overall industry.

    Advice to Management

Understand that most of the employs on the floor have the largest impact on operations so they should be treated more as employees rather than just another number.
