I have been working at ABB full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company very good for moving up the ladder. They really promote everyone to build their careers and further education.

    Cons

Very corporate. This sometimes makes rules a little rigid. They don't always pay shop workers the best but it is a stable job with growth opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Let's try to be more flexible. Before we roll out high level strategies we need a plan to take it to all the BUs.

I have been working at ABB full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - family atmosphere
    - interesting projects in R&D
    - newly started software initiative to increase software quality (everything moves and that's always
    good)
    - diversity of products increased over last couple of years
    - salary is ok for a small town like Bartlesville
    - many old people -> chances are good get promoted soon
    - international business

    Cons

    - long projects
    - annoying processes
    - health of facility in Bartlesville is bound to oil and gas price
    - even if the facility is over performing and the individual exceeds all there goals you won't get a full bonus since other business units in your division may underperform

I worked at ABB as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Located in fields if you enjoy greenery
Located in small town, so rent is really cheap

    Cons

Have no experience of software development
Have architects who are fired from other companies
Have not delivered anything since last 3-4 years
Forces the employees in RnD/Software team to work 12 hrs a day and even on weekends but has a time management system which makes entry only between 8-5
Very poor people and programme management, worst ever seen
    No Transparency
Not at all recommended for software professionals

    Advice to Management

Hire some Managers who are really technical. Project manager has to be technical to make a project succeed.
Have trust on your employees and don't force them to work 12 hrs a day and on weekends

    Pros

Great advancement for engineers and chemist, international company, great opportunities to work abroad, their educational assistance is a wonderful benefit

    Cons

No advancement for employees who are not engineers or chemist. Most contract employees who are hired as full time employees are not given a decent salary to begin their career with the company.

I worked at ABB full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive pay and benefits. Approachable management. Dedicated employees.

    Cons

Typical corporate issues. HR group is small, overworked, and not always on site. IT Helpdesk is based in India. Upper management is a bit too disconnected at times.

    Advice to Management

For the most part, job well done. Recent growth will bring its own challenges but a focus on two way communications with those in the trenches will prevent many potential problems.
