I have been working at ABB full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Super good engineering/innovation. Open and creative attitude. On a roll in the USA adding new products and going after new markets

    Cons

Minimal. Sometimes inconvenient to navigate a large company

    Advice to Management

Keep it going! Thank you for investing in the USA!

    Pros

A company that is highly ethical, a global leader with green products and services our world needs the most in "Power & Productivity". There are many opportunities to grow and advance your career if you so like. It all depends on what you are willing to put in. We are moving in the right direction to become One Simple ABB, with common systems and business processes.

    Cons

Since we are a global company you are on the job most of the time since you are connected to colleagues all over the world and several timezones away from you are at any given point. A global knowledge management system within IS/IT would be welcomed to further increase knowledge sharing.

    Advice to Management

We need a much more efficient mobile email tool - such as Blackberry. Also - we should take the opportunity to further reduce our "dead weight".

"ABB is a very competitive and respectable place of employment."

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The pay scale seems very competitive and fair. 401k, pension plan, vision, dental and health! Coworkers are always willing to support if needed. The managers are all former Field Service Personnel and know what it takes to get the job done.

    Cons

The travel for my particular job is significant. Not good for someone with close family ties. There is a just get the customer taken care of mentality with no regard for the employee needs.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the needs and concerns of your employees. Some of the low people actually have some helpful things to add.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Still has European mentality - fair work hours, carryover vacation hours that can't be used, etc.
    Very clean & safe workplace
    Respectable employer

    Cons

Hogan is starting to bring in GE ideas. Pulling employees from High cost countries - moving to LCC - may be good for short term stock gains, but not sure if it's good for the long haul.
Raises are relatively flat - reduces incentive to produce

    Advice to Management

    Improve communication within ABB
Provide incentives to reduce similar product groups to reduce internal competition
Improve literature of products to consumers - easier to implement, less complex
Reduce workforce in Europe to LCC's slowly - could backkfire with blackballing from EU governements.

    Pros

Working at ABB US Corporate Research was great. The research was all geared towards improving the products developed by ABB and the people were great to work with. It's an international company, so collaboration with people in other countries was encouraged and often made for better products.

    Cons

There could be more grooming of technical researchers into research managers.

    Advice to Management

The treatment of technical professionals has been good...It'll be good to see more (software) technical researchers given the opportunity to lead.

    Pros

Unlimitted possibilities for technical growth, but still enough time for personal and family life.

    Cons

The salary increases subjected to company-wide limits.

    Advice to Management

In my opinion, the company should invest more in new technologies and be the leader from the point of view of research and development, and not only from the point of view of sales.

    Pros

ABB is a company that strives to do the right thing and take responsibility for its actions. It treats its employees fairly and doesn't limit them with glass ceilings. It provides the community with useful products and services that serve to help the world become more sustainable and use its resources more efficiently.

    Cons

One down side of ABB as with any big company is that sometimes you have to live somewhere other than your preferred location in order to have a position or work in a business that you desire.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be ethical and to hold your employees to high standards, and continue striving to become "One ABB" because if we optimize how we do business and how we work with each other, we have the resources to not only be great but to be the best.
