I have been working at ABB full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are great! Benefits are average

    Cons

Outsourcing of jobs, no recognition, Low morale

    Advice to Management

Long term, dedicated, knowledgeable employees are looking for other positions and leaving due to management. Reducing key local workforce and outsourcing jobs. Specifically - Accounting, IT, HR, Supply Chain making jobs remaining difficult to perform due to the outsourcing - thus hindering meeting the needs of the customer and employees.

I worked at ABB full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

No Pros to speak of working at that place was a living hell and anyone that tells you otherwise is lying.

    Cons

Long work hours/weeks I worked there for a few years and it consisted of "mandatory 58 hours" a week even when the workload didn't support it. Was told by a manager that I could sweep the floors all day when we didn't have work if you didn't work 10 hours a day Monday thru Friday and 8 hours on Saturday they'd threaten to write you up. Then they'd come around and ask for volunteers for Sunday. "Hot" units were brought to your attention a day before they were scheduled to ship. Management didn't know anything about what went on after they left they would rely on other workers to tell them. All in all it isn't worth the hours they make you work. Annnddd we were required to test units using up to 480v when we weren't even certified they never bothered. If you don't suck up to your manager and team lead you don't get a raise at all. There are workers there that have been there 10+ years faithfully and they're not even at top pay.

    Advice to Management

Show and act like you actually care about your workers.

I have been working at ABB full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very diverse global company that requires cross cultural collaboration. Good work life balance encouraged, and many good teams to work with.

    Cons

Every couple of years the company goes through reorganization in an effort to scale down management but people and titles get shifted but nothing changes.

I have been working at ABB full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This company cares about its employees. The company offers a wide array of benefits, including vacation accruals from day one. The sense of community working at an ABB plant is phenomenal.

    Cons

The salary is not outstanding, but still fairly good for an entry level position. Raises are done on a yearly basis for the whole company, which if you get hired at the wrong time of year can be really detrimental. However, even as one of these cases, this company still shines.

I have been working at ABB full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I find that there are many opportunities within ABB. Working in a corporate location (i.e. not a plant), there are many opportunities to move laterally and upwards across multiple functions. It is not uncommon for people to work in Finance, but then move into HR or SCM or other function. Within Finance there are opportunities within AP, AR, GA, Treasury, Real Estate, Corporate Accounting, etc. The people are friendly and the work hours are reasonable (I wouldn't have said this 7-10 years ago).

    Cons

Bullies are often promoted (especially women) and low performers have the most job security. 2% per year in US - barely covers inflation. Company loyalty is strong as many people have been with the company for 15+ years. While this could be a pro, it seems more of a con as these people do not see the benefit of change which is needed.

    Advice to Management

Move into the 21st century - Move to Paid Time Off, Allow and encourage working from home, Use applications / software on the cloud (not using internal network which regularly has issues), etc.
