I have been working at ABC Fine Wine and Spirits full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

If you really have a great depth of Wine Knowledge, this can be a fantastic career for you. Very easy job if you are organized and professional

    Cons

Other people working at store get paid just above minimum wage. So there always is allot of tension in the air as you make 3 to 4 times even what the store manager makes.

    Advice to Management

    Slow

I have been working at ABC Fine Wine and Spirits full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Access to wine and spirits course program

    Cons

Very narrow-minded people in the home office in Orlando. Apparently, most of them are not qualified for the positions they exercise. They seem not to care much about employees or ways to incentive/develop better conditions of labor. Very high turnover and dissatisfied employees.

    Advice to Management

Listen and reward the good ideas and suggestions employees offer. Be trustful and fairer to employees, conquer their loyalty and satisfaction by offering better salaries and opportunities.

While we appreciate the feedback, we are sorry to hear that you're unhappy with the company and feel that the corporate office doesn't support the store team members. In fact, that is the complete opposite of how we feel! Without the stores and the store team members we wouldn't have ...

I worked at ABC Fine Wine and Spirits full-time

    Pros

Great opportunity to learn about wine and spirits including free Gallo University access, formal training and tastings w/ sommelier-level mgmt, and simply the chance to handle world-renown wines. Some autonomy in merchandising and ordering product. Senior-level execs breeze through a couple of times a year to check on their holdings and meet with staff informally. A very physical job. Good benefits. Great support staff...

For store managers ABC doesn't stand for Always Be Celebrating it stands for "Always Be Criticizing/Complaining/Condemning. Inexperienced people are thrown into leadership positions and set about enforcing a list of conflicting rules. One mgr literally yelled at me...Sr Mg response?Folded her arms across her chest, stood over me (I sat), told me it was my fault, and said, "Anything else?" Last boss said No to everything...

    Advice to Management

Get a life outside the store. Read How to Win Friends & Influence People or some type of books on managing people. Be collaborative and stop disciplining people who don't need to be disciplined! Uncross your arms. On occasion, TRY to find something nice to say. Work WITH your staff instead of trying to control their every move. Do not ever opine that female staff members married simply to be taken care of financially....

    Pros

Good.contests for.wine consultants. Great customers, amazing GM.

    Cons

Staff needs to be more knowledgeable from the store manager down. It is imperative every single person has all knowledge of all things.

    Advice to Management

Force the Gallo Training on every employee, do not have it optional. No person should be store manager unless every level is complete. I don't know is not a good answer to give a customer.

    Pros

-Knowledge, they have monthly meetings and classes to educate their employees. Also, they offer up an extensive online program that has taught me so much about wine and spirits. -CLOSED ON THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS! -miscommunication all over the place -inadequate staffing* -lazy/ignorant employees* - you have to ask for a raise (however, this is ANYWHERE YOU GO. People don't want to just hand out money. I have received 4 raises within the last 2 years because I work my fingers to the bone, I am proud of the work I do and it shows through my numbers. This is a retail job, selling trumps all. Advice to Management

You can't please everyone. I read a lot of flack about the pay adjustment and honestly I still don't really know how it works, but my paycheck stayed the same and I'm okay with that. I know for a fact there are still lazeabouts among us, it's bad for morale. If someone is constantly hours late everyday, or even doesn't show up sometimes, fire them, that day...not six months later. If it has been made known to you that...

I have been working at ABC Fine Wine and Spirits

    Pros

Benefits, 401k, wine consultants get good pay and can win trips to Europe. Monthly meetings/ training classes.

    Cons

Hostility between wine consultants and rest of staff, prob cuz they get paid nothing and r always stuck on register. Big emphasis on direct to you numbers and %'s, can get overwhelming. I feel like they expect the wine consultant to harass customers to get them to buy certain things. No real room for growth in the company.

    Advice to Management

Pay all the employees more, they deserve it...especially store managers & assistant Store mgrs. Take care of all of them, not only the wine consultants.

    Pros

Their paychecks never bounced. The training that they gave you on product classes was good. Occasional incentive trips were possible to win. Got to taste many wines. The senior wine department management were good, knowledgeable and nice to work for.

    Cons

However the rest of the senior management team made you just do enough to not get yelled at. Instead of putting in better security systems everytime there was a shoplifting problem they would drug test the whole store. Low pay, no real opportunity for advancement, very expensive benefits and every once in awhile your store would get robbed.

    Advice to Management

Be better leaders and not just bosses.
