    Pros

The general environment is very positive and the work is rewarding. The campus is beautiful, and the benefits are good.

    Cons

There is no path for advancement and the salary is not competitive. Last year's raises were lousy despite stellar company performance.

I worked at ADTRAN full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Clean buildings and very laid back company.

    Cons

Management and HR are inconsistant with the company policy. The policy is what ever they want it to be at any given time and with any given employee. The maufacturing management team will not stand up for you,or at least not some. Management both manufacturing and HR are not very professional, but yet they tell you that you need to be. Management talks bad about other comnpanies and they have not worked anywhere but ADTRAN, so how do they know. Not professional in my opinion. Some managers hide information from the employees because they do nopt want the employees to use the program.

    Advice to Management

All managers should have the same policy. You work for the same company. Stop hideing information from the employees. Be honest with your employees. They help the company make money.

I have been working at ADTRAN full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice facilities, some good perks if you are in the Huntsville office (on-site gym and nurse). Traditionally, they were a stable place and rather laid back.

    Cons

There is no clear direction coming from management and the only thing that seems to matter is the Wall St bottom line. Everyone is overworked and being tasked to do more with less. Morale is pretty shot.

    Advice to Management

Come up with a clear vision to take the company forward. Invest in your people, new technology, new ideas to turn the company around.

I worked at ADTRAN full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You live in Huntsville and it is the only large Telco vendor

    Cons

If you are working in remote office, you might as well look for a new job

    Advice to Management

Adopt modern management techniques and there is a world outside of Huntsville

    Pros

Good benefit package, loose work schedule is a plus I guess

    Cons

I have been working at ADTRAN full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great coworkers and facilities
    Good cafeteria

    Cons

Heavily understaffed and poor compensation compaired to rest of companies in the area
Lack of career path and advancement unless you join the ever growing group of first level management
Company tends to value reacting instead of strategic plnning. This may be due to managers becoming more insular and territorial over the years.
Heavy turnover in talent in the last 2-1/2 years

    Advice to Management

Visit more often with the design and test engineers. Until you regain the lost trust of your creative talent, you will never truely understand the reasons for the increased turnover. And giving a presentation once a year where your first words are your name and title, since many new hires have never even seen you before, does not constitute a valid or sincere visit.

I worked at ADTRAN as a contractor

    Pros

Low key environment. Friendly people for the most part. Good cafeteria.

    Cons

There is not a bright outlook for employees or Adtran as a whole company. Adtran does not give you the tools to do an exception job at low cost. Adtran disposes of people with an out with the old and in with the new for a lot less pay and double the work approach. There is turnover here with no incentive to stay.

    Advice to Management

Adtran needs a good retirement package. Upper management in the past has a proven track record of a successful company with stocks soaring. Suggest maybe looking into the past on management skills for a brighter future. Look where you are now! As a past employee the stock I purchased is now worthless.

    Cons

Outdated, non-competitive products, no direction, no vision, The company stumbles, unable to find its way. Politics, politics and more politics. Extremely poor communication from the top down.

    Advice to Management

Look around, the world of technology is passing you by...

    Pros

    Great people
Great culture - when you're at corporate

    Cons

    No room for growth
    Very little communication
Top level management is only concerned about managing stock price
    Frugal to a fault
Company doesnt backfill when people leave, they just distribute the workload and make every one work harder
Very little attention for remote employees

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about the stock price and start worrying about your human assets. You can only ride people so long before they give up. No one likes being kept in the dark.
