I have been working at AECOM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Global projects and interesting challenges.

    Cons

No IT staff. All IT outsourced that have no understanding of the business or any urgency to resolve issues. Terrible work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

The company is a service business. Make decisions that improve service - not diminish service.

I worked at AECOM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

High starting wages compared to other companies in the same field.

    Cons

    - There are no chances for growth except for transferring within the company to a different department.
    - The site lead and management DO NOT care about the workers at ALL. (You are simply just a number to them.)
    - Most of your co-workers will have negative attitudes. Due to being in a dead in job for over 5 years and still making the same amount of money as the day you started.

    Advice to Management

Stop being stingy with overtime and look out for your people. Negativity falls downstream not the other way around. Stop flaunting to everyone how much money you make, its unprofessional.

"AECOM Appears to be Shedding Military Contracts"

I worked at AECOM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

None if you plan to make a career working on military contracts.

    Cons

Minimal support for existing military contracts. I worked for URS on a long term (15+ years) military contract. Within six months of being acquired by AECOM the work culture became an impersonal and sterile working environment. Despite having long-term success and experience working on military contracts for URS, AECOM did not attempt to place any employees into their current DOD contracts.

    Advice to Management

For most current and former AECOM employees it appears that AECOM upper management does not care to keep their military / DOD contracts. To many working on AECOM military contracts it appears that the company is shedding this work. Be upfront with current and potential employees if this is the plan.

I worked at AECOM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flexible working hours
Great people to work with (depending on location)
    Variety of projects
    Ability to jump disciplines

    Cons

AECOM leadership only makes decisions based on the bottom line, not on employees
    Terrible benefits
    Below average pay
    Heavy corporate structure
    Employees are treated as numbers

    Advice to Management

To corporate: make decisions that show you actually value your employees. Corporate says 'our employees are our number 1 assets'; however, all we heard after those fake-sounding meetings was 'get your sold time up.' The hard part about hearing that is our sold-time pays for the ridiculous salaries (and different benefit structure) of corporate - none of whom charge a single hour to a project. How about investing in your employees? How about paying for training? How about providing real incentives for excellent performers? How about providing something as simple as a holiday party? Etc.
I think AECOM could be a great company to work for, but part of the reason I chose to leave is because I was continually disappointed by the decisions Corporate makes. But alas, if Management doesn't listen to their current employees, why would they listen to a former employee.

I worked at AECOM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Direct IT professions and line managers are some of the best in the business. Sadly that is where it ends.

    Cons

Upper management sees no value in Line managers or under, they are expendable tools to use as hard as you can till they break then replace them. People are numbers, very underpaid numbers.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees right and they will treat the customer and you right. It is a concept that has been lost at AECOM.

I have been working at AECOM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, diverse projects, generally very friendly coworkers.

    Cons

Pay and benefits not competitive. In my department, 85% of the women have graduate degrees, compared to 5% of the men. We generally have more experience. Yet are overlooked for management positions, and payed less than men with equal or lesser experience.

    Advice to Management

Make a more concerted effort to pay women the same salaries as men.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at AECOM part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people I work with directly are wonderful.

    Cons

High level management are not supportive or appreciative of employees. Profit driven only. Worst is an environment where staff and management are extremely competitive with other staff/management instead of working as a team.

    Advice to Management

Work on creating a more collaborative, team-oriented culture.
