I have been working at AECOM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great people to work with.

    Cons

Corporate structure, employees expected to chase work without qualifications, managers do not add much to this process.

    Advice to Management

More help to providing work to mid-level employees.

    Pros

Working for AECOM has afforded me the opportunity to work on a variety of projects. I have been fortunate to work for some excellent managers

    Cons

AECOM is a large company, so you can sometimes get lost in the crowd. It is important to be proactive in looking for work.

I have been working at AECOM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great focus on innovation and setting trends in industry. High performers will be recognized with corporate support and opportunities. Like any corporation, the experience here can be flavored by the team you work in. There are great ones, and not so great ones.

    Cons

Heavy focus on large projects which can deflate those who work on smaller ones. Benefits are mediocre for such a large company who should be able to leverage their buying power for a better benefits package. Focus on utilization can be a distraction.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the utilization focus and empower staff to work and grow, not bill. The outcome may even be better!

I have been working at AECOM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

AECOM is now a very large company, and as such opportunities to do varied work abound. There are good internal systems to help you identify these opportunities throughout the company. The work the company does is truly transformational and socially important on a global basis.

    Cons

Biggest challenges are a) trying to learn and coordinate what all of the various parts of AECOM does and b) ensuring the internal structures of the various parts does not inhibit collaboration. These are still a work in progress.

    Advice to Management

There can never be too much communication - keep plugging away on your messaging and driving both collaboration and innovation.

I worked at AECOM (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good people at all levels of management. Great amount of exposure to all kinds of different projects. Global footprint allows for ability to relocate relatively easily

    Cons

Unbelievably bureaucratic Management reporting structure. Unrealistic utilization goals that are calculated weekly. IT is outsourced with very little immediate or onsite support.

    Advice to Management

Understand that overhead costs are part of a workers job. Being billable full time is completely unrealistic.
