I have been working at AECOM full-time

    Pros

Not Much - Nice office location office staff great people. I feel sorry for them.

    Cons

Computers not working, no employee orientation, no HR, no employee interaction, poor morale, employees do not work together, no teamwork, constant firing of qualified employees. Top management is up to no good -look at CEO record. Management Systems that does not exist. The McDonals of consulting.

    Advice to Management

Safety is a joke. The safety officer is not qualified and the documents are a mess. URS was a better company.Get going with the computer systems. Develop reality-based management systems with simple documents. Treat employees with respect. Spend money to make money. Get ride of finance people running the company- no people skills. It's too late your in trouble and your client's know it. Age discrimination big time

I have been working at AECOM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Steady shifts, fairly laid back atmosphere, benefits, a cafe is available for lunch and breakfast on site, they provide us with some basic hand tools.

    Cons

Poor communication amongst technicians and managers, not much room for growth, limited training, the focus is on completing work orders to reach a quota more than doing work correctly.

    Advice to Management

Get more technicians on board and figure out a way to perform better training and instruction to your new hires.

    Pros

Good benefits. Training is widely available. The company is structured.

    Cons

Politics. People who were on the last few years of a 20+ year construction project decides to retire at the project and does not promote from within easily.

    Advice to Management

    Be more transparent with employees.

I worked at AECOM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good people, good procedures. I felt good knowing there were knowledgable people on my project teams while at URS/Aecom. It's not often these days you find any level of comfort with EPC companies. At least I can speak of a positive experience in the Houston office.

    Cons

In my experience it did not seem as if the company had much luck winning work. The layoffs were frequent during my last year with the company.

    Advice to Management

Win more work in order to develop and keep a strong team.

I have been working at AECOM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I meet many extremely talented specialists, and work on nation wide teams. I see how companies manage large numbers of people. We have had some change, and I have had growth opportunities.

    Cons

We have a system for everything- invoicing, tracking budgets, using subcontractors, etc. these systems are for metrics regarding the company's wealth. There are no systems for mentoring, training, or growing careers- those activities don't contribute to the stock value.

    Advice to Management

    Value and validate employees.

    Pros

AECOM prior to the URS acquisition was the place I thought I would stay for a long time

    Cons

Acquisition of URS. They could care less about the employees. HR barely leave their offices to see employees and check morale. All about the bottom dollar

    Advice to Management

Take back management from URS and start caring about youremployees

I worked at AECOM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flexible working hours
Great people to work with (depending on location)
    Variety of projects
    Ability to jump disciplines

    Cons

AECOM leadership only makes decisions based on the bottom line, not on employees
    Terrible benefits
    Below average pay
    Heavy corporate structure
    Employees are treated as numbers

    Advice to Management

To corporate: make decisions that show you actually value your employees. Corporate says 'our employees are our number 1 assets'; however, all we heard after those fake-sounding meetings was 'get your sold time up.' The hard part about hearing that is our sold-time pays for the ridiculous salaries (and different benefit structure) of corporate - none of whom charge a single hour to a project. How about investing in your employees? How about paying for training? How about providing real incentives for excellent performers? How about providing something as simple as a holiday party? Etc.
I think AECOM could be a great company to work for, but part of the reason I chose to leave is because I was continually disappointed by the decisions Corporate makes. But alas, if Management doesn't listen to their current employees, why would they listen to a former employee.

I worked at AECOM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Direct IT professions and line managers are some of the best in the business. Sadly that is where it ends.

    Cons

Upper management sees no value in Line managers or under, they are expendable tools to use as hard as you can till they break then replace them. People are numbers, very underpaid numbers.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees right and they will treat the customer and you right. It is a concept that has been lost at AECOM.
