    Pros

I like how the company AECOM being relaxed about the dress code and that you can choose you weekly hourly schedule.

    Cons

I do not like that the company AECOM treats you a certain way. You are just a number and are not treated fairly.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Mostly leave you to fix problems on your own with very little assistance.

    Cons

Poorly managed network, continue to acquire companies without putting management tools in place to support them. management completely out of touch with the guys doing the work and seem to have their own agenda. Difficult to get new tools and training; lack of money is given as explanation. No direction, no focus, just putting out fires day to day without looking at long term. Managers non-existent; workers never asked for their opinion.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your workers, pay attention to them for retention.

I have been working at AECOM (More than 10 years)

    Pros

AECOM provides above average pay, and flexible working hours. Opportunities to work on a variety of interesting projects if you take advantage of working out of your comfort zones.

    Cons

Too many middle and senior level managers who do not want to or do not have the skills to work on the technical aspects of projects. Project managers carry the load for this company. It is very frustrating working hard and watching managers of business line disciplines coast through the days, weeks, months, quarter and years. Most of the pressure and accountability is placed on project managers.

Lack of training. AECOM does not encourage technical training outside of the AECOM training modules, which is mainly internal management or internal procedures regarding prject management, time cards etc. If you want to learn how to use engineering software, AECOM very rarely pays for useful technical training with outside providers to learn engineering techniques, technical computer programs etc.

Open space concept is terrible. Very noisy, cramped working quarters. Many people do not work at the office on a consistent basis to collaborate on projects because they work from home to avoid the noisy and cramped working space. Therefore, you can only communicate with some team members on projects by e-mail and phone, which is very inefficient.

    Advice to Management

Profit margins in excess of 10% are difficult to achieve for municipal clients. They have very low budgets, and most contracts are time and material,

I have been working at AECOM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

We work on some of the most interesting projects in the world, we have amazing talent and there are many opportunities for employee growth.

    Cons

Working in a large corporation has additional bureaucracy inherent with any large organization. If you are used to working with a small company, this can be one of the largest adjustments.

    Advice to Management

Remember that employees are the most valuable asset to an organization of any size. To be the best we must employ the best.

I have been working at AECOM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I really wish there were a ton of "pros" to list but it is truly to soon to tell how successful the merger of two mega companies will really be. The benefits are good for now but are about to change next year.

    Cons

The conversion from one system to a far less superior one has been a nightmare. Tasks that could be completed in 2-4 steps are now taking at least 15 steps. Employees have all been given unrealistic expectations with regards to goals and workload. Entirely too much micromanaging combined with a HORRID system = unhappy employees.

    Advice to Management

No real advice. Unfortunately, these issues are not uncommon when two large companies merge as one. AECOM recently conducted an employee satisfaction survey and has committed to making this a great place to work. Hopefully I will be around to witness it...
