    Pros

There is no “ceiling” regarding what position or role you take on, provided your ambition is high enough to compete with the demanding workload. Strong female leadership is present.

    Cons

Annual bonus is almost non-existent- the company gives each person a $100 bill in a Christmas card. Almost laughable considering the high margins and profit-boasting throughout the year. Junior staff stay on for 1-2 years before leaving due to burnout; obviously there are a few exceptions. This is a better place to work after you’ve received 5+ years experience elsewhere.

The CEO seems to genuinely care but is likely spread too thin to take any comments east of the California border to heart.

    Advice to Management

Bonus structure and profit sharing need re-evaluated. Not everyone fits into a single department and those who are cross-trained simply cannot bonus.

    Pros

Opportunity to work with intelligent, hard working people, and learn a new industry. One of the only environmental due diligence companies that will hire new grads without due diligence or project management experience.

    Cons

Over the last few years the company has increasingly been focusing on quantity at the expense of quality. They do not invest in hiring people who are experienced or qualified, instead they look for the hardest working/most naive person and try to pay them as little as possible. Burn out rate is extremely high. They take advantage of college grads that have never had a different employment experience. The hours can be extremely long. It's a good place to work if you excel at cutting corners and feel comfortable taking on personal risk for rushing through research. If you are detail-oriented, risk averse, or do not want to work a ton of overtime, stay away.

    Advice to Management

If you truly value your employees and clients, your bonus system should be based on quality, with a minimum value for quantity - not the reverse, how it's currently structured. You incentive people to do as much work as possible, at below their best effort. This is damaging to the reputation of the company, the trust of our clients, and to employees who take pride in the quality of their work.

    Pros

Easy for Co-workers to become a second family. Service side is awesome.

    Cons

Internal leadership can be a bit unorganized and chaotic at times. It was hard to shake the feeling that management spent too much time and money blindly tossing ideas at the wall to see what sticks without any real research or understanding. Investing into the wrong ideas and consistently biting off more than they can chew. Giving the impression that most are desperately trying to look busy enough to appear relevant at the determent of the company as whole.

    Advice to Management

Reward those who consistently bring value and beware of those who do not.

    Pros

AEI Consultants is a strong company that has been experiencing consistent organizational growth. They have seized opportunities to expand service lines to best meet the needs of our clients and strengthen the company's position in the market.
AEI has a positive, team-oriented corporate culture where employees are valued and treated as capable professionals. The low turnover rate is evidence that most employees here feel appreciated, that they have the opportunity for career growth, and that their work is positively impacting the company's success. There is good communication among employees and leadership is open and supportive. AEI is a employee owned and employees are given flexibility and independence in getting their work done. There is an emphasis on building strong client relationships, producing good work and delivering beyond expectations. A job well done is recognized and appreciated.
AEI is a place where you can build and grow in your career. As we expand new opportunities will continue to arise for employees. I'm glad to be part of the AEI team!

    Cons

The nature of the industry causes short-term fluctuations in work loads. It's not necessarily a con, just something that always has to be managed. Leadership does well in preparing for the ups and downs and is respectful of employee's time in both the busy and slower periods.

    Advice to Management

We're on the right track; keep up the good work!

I worked at AEI Consultants full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Phenomenal company with lots of opportunities for upward growth. They love to promote from within which rewards good/hard workers and builds a working environment of strong relationships. They are always looking out for you and incredibly supportive in whatever you are looking to do. The only reason I left them was for graduate school, but if life had sent me down the env consulting path, I'd be back w them in a heart beat.

    Cons

The starting wage is fairly low for pms, but that is bc of the high turnover rate. At my one year review, I got a significant pay raise and the opportunities for bonuses more than make up for the low starting pay.
