I worked at AEI Consultants full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Phenomenal company with lots of opportunities for upward growth. They love to promote from within which rewards good/hard workers and builds a working environment of strong relationships. They are always looking out for you and incredibly supportive in whatever you are looking to do. The only reason I left them was for graduate school, but if life had sent me down the env consulting path, I'd be back w them in a heart beat.

    Cons

The starting wage is fairly low for pms, but that is bc of the high turnover rate. At my one year review, I got a significant pay raise and the opportunities for bonuses more than make up for the low starting pay.

    Pros

Ability to work remotely. Thorough training in Phase I due diligence.

    Cons

Low wage. No opportunities for growth. It is a revolving door for Due Diligence Project Managers.

I worked at AEI Consultants full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nationwide company. Employees trained to perform a variety of environmental jobs including Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs, Lead based paint and Asbestos sampling.

    Cons

Lots of banks for clients. Performed assessments on many foreclosures. Not very cooperative owners that did not easily provide site access or owner interviews. Not a lot of upward mobility or promotion potential.

    Advice to Management

Managers need more management training. Supervisors do not have a lot of people skills. Salary did not compensate for long hours required.

I worked at AEI Consultants full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with, nice and flexible work environment.
You can work from home whenever you please, and can expense almost anything to get approval.
CEO is a nice guy, really accessible.

    Cons

No feedback on work the majority of the time until its raise time (with usually no raise)
    low wage
parking ($12-20 a day near the office) was not paid for or even a benifit to stem the cost
No room for advancement even for upper management
Completely unstructured due to the laid back nature (ie rarely saw my direct boss cause he worked from home 4 days a week)
Snubbed the little guy a lot (aka posting pictures on internal company pages of company parties, but no invite for low level people)
President pretends to be accessible, but really isn't, even the one time she visited our office.

    Advice to Management

Increase feedback, and appreciate the little guy.

I have been working at AEI Consultants full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As AEI continues to grow, it's well worth it to be a part of the experience. Most everyone works together cohesively towards the same goals, most individuals communicate effectively, and provides a stable work environment with great people to befriend.

On a daily basis we are challenged to produce accurate, concise information with the client's needs in mind. It's definitely a place to begin your career or create your career.

    Cons

As the company grows we are all challenged to keep up with new information. Sometimes that information (whether it be new hires, operational procedures, or the high volume of work to do) can get lost in translation. There needs to be a more effective system for e-communication as everything is done through email - maybe an internal chat system.

There needs to be a greater understanding of duties and roles. This is something I believe the company as a whole lacks. Being a part of multiple teams can create quite a bit of confusion when each team has their own way of doing things. There needs to be a more streamlined, efficient way for procedures in order to cut back on mistakes and increase e-communication quality.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to be open to suggestions from employees and peers as well as be encouraging to growth . We all have a certain perspective from which we view things and those views may help the company become more in alignment internally and externally.

One other suggestion - look into some corporate wellness programs. There are exceptional benefits to happy, healthy, and balanced employees.

Laid back; co-workers are easy to get along with; lots of treats (bagels and cookies); fun parties

    Cons

Too laid back at times; poor management/leadership; SOPs not followed or enforced

    Advice to Management

Stick to the SOPs, need better communication across the board; make sure all who are hired are properly trained

    "Great Company in Growth Mode"

    Pros

Corporate Culture, Follow Through, Client Focus, Long Term Vision are some of the tings that make this company great. In growth mode, management is working very hard to stay ahead of stumbles before they happen. The President is an inspiration leader who works hands on at all levels in a positive way.

    Cons

There is some disconnect in communication sometimes, with some managers being more transparent than others. Though this also shows diversity in management style, which I appreciate.

    Advice to Management

Keep owning what you are working on and your relationships with your co-workers and your clients. It shows and is paying off! Spread the word about ESOP and it's benefits more.
