I have been working at AEP full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is good and above average for the area. great and plentiful benefits, you can work there until retirement.

    Cons

64 pages of company acronyms. The job is complex and they give you 100% on day one. It's tough to keep a positive attitude when you learn something new everyday for 4 months

    Pros

    Steady work
    Job security
    Great people
    Community involvement

    Cons

Community views all utilities as bad
Seems like many of the employees were frustrated and were embarrassed to work there due to the negative community views.
Company was not willing to change much or accept many new ideas

    Advice to Management

There needs to be less of a hierarchy, promote innovation or you will get left behind in the long run.

I have been working at AEP (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A Very Exciting Staff. Very Professional Atmosphere and Highly Motivated workforce. A lot of potential for earnings. Training is very good along with hands on training for new individuals wanting to be set up for success.

    Cons

Low Base pay for Experienced professionals. Mistakes always made on deals and commissions. Always excuses from management and a song and dance given to appease you . Senior or experienced sales representatives should not be (Micro- Managed). IPad or Kindle given but (Tracks your every move). Management likes to find ways to intimidate all sales team. Meetings are way to long and you have to pay a garage fee of $6 to $10 each time you go ( 4 times a week at least) no reimbursement for this and your fuel.

    Advice to Management

Pay everyone's commissions correctly. As we have worked and earned it!! Also stop Micro-Managing and Intimidating all Senior and Experienced sales Professionals as you have hired us to work, sale and be successful based on our previous sales experiences and accomplishments.

    Pros

Location downtown is convenient and fun. Environment is fast-paced. The generation floor is a fun place to work. It's nice to work for a company that's headquartered in the city you work.

    Cons

Old-fashioned at times. Utility mentality. Some folks are managing people because they were good at their previous job, not because they are good at developing people. This is the type of place where you need to put in 2 years or more sitting in the same seat before you will be given a new opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Allow people to move up (or around) more easily. There is a culture difference between the old CSW folks and the legacy AEP folks.
