I worked at AEP (More than a year)

    Pros

Leadership empowered team to devise solutions and offered development and education when requested. This was a great project team to work with. I would do it again!

    Cons

They were not able to hire most existing contractors due to staff cuts happening simultaneously.

I worked at AEP as an intern

    Pros

-Challenging and complex industry, AEP helped to explain a lot of it
    -Great corporate culture
-Management is interested in your development
-Work exposure is varied and deep from the second you join

    Cons

-Pay was a little low vs. my University's average intern salary, career experiences gained more than made up for it though!

    Advice to Management

I worked in the AEP Energy and OnSite Partners divisions and I think that the only advice I would give is to create an official intern on-boarding program. Also creating more of a community for interns in the organization would be helpful as well. Amazing time otherwise, proud to have had the opportunity to work here!

I have been working at AEP full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

AEP values its engineers which is good to see. The company is undertaking a lot of change right now utilizing new 'smart grid' technology and big data analytics and it is an exciting time to work at a utility.

    Cons

Technology is changing quickly but staffing changes follow too slow behind the additional and changing workloads. It tends to be after employee's are too overloaded before additional staffing is considered instead of anticipating these needs.

    Advice to Management

Make sure groups are staffed correctly to meet their goals.

I have been working at AEP full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and stability, kind coworkers.

    Cons

Lots of people who need to retire keep holding on.
People in satellite offices (aka outside of Ohio) get treated like second rate citizens.

    Advice to Management

Release another retire package please. Provide more opportunities for people outside of Ohio.
