I have been working at AIG full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good company benefits, pension, life insurance and other schemes

    Cons

There is no consistency in management.
The company wastes thousands of pounds on different 'projects' only for them to be scrapped

    Advice to Management

    Stop working against each other!

I have been working at AIG full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company attempts to be innovative. Good basic salary and benefits. Flexible working. Largest Insurer in world looks good on CV.

    Cons

Lack of basic technical and Insurance knowledge runs throughout the claims dept - adjusters should be renamed as claims processors.

    Advice to Management

    Zero control over indemnity spend

I have been working at AIG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Low pressure, job titles are not correct - you sound more important than you are. friendly people but not competent. Solid 9-5 job, sometimes you can even go missing and no one notices. Holidays are not bad.

    Cons

Low quality staff, no performance management, no development of team, inflated hierarchy, requirement to over document everything and provide 80+ page exec summaries to directors to hide poor performance, luckily directors are clueless so don't understand it. Lack of benchmarking and external knowledge. Often hire or promote mates rather than talent. Lack of basic management skills. Frequent pay freezes at year end or mid year. They often need to get people from abroad who they don't even rate because they can't find anyone local - poor recruitment practises.

    Advice to Management

When work is delivered late you need to take the manager aside and have a chat, the next time they do it you emphasise the need to meet timescales, the 3rd time you give a warning and the fourth time you bring HR in and have a chat about their future. Stop this stupid management club and manage the company, develop your team, set real goals, there is still a toxic culture that has not been fixed since the 2008 aig collapse. Look towards your best staff and think about rewarding them not keeping them down in the dregs, I have seen low level staff who possess all the skills needed to manage the team but instead we have to put up with useless managers who have no clue what they are doing.
