I have been working at AJ's Fine Foods full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Like anywhere else, it is what you make of it. You make friends, generally you are forced to 'commiserate' about how bad things are going or how bad they have fallen over the years at this laughing stock company. AJ's is really food city quality masked by a better name...a sinking brand.

    Cons

RAPIDLY becoming a third rate if not cut rate company. If you have ANY education you do not belong here! Any ambitious dreams? DO NOT work here. This place will stifle you unless you are mentioned in the aptly named review title above (not kidding...wish I really was!).

Company is run like a police state of arbitrary 'compliance' issues regarding the health department. It is VERY much a good ol' boys club if you are at all to have any opportunity in 'corporate' which is stocked with literally zero talented 'lifers' who climbed up the ladder solely based off years put in.

Pay is never great in grocery retail, but AJ's is shockingly sub-par among rival chains; yet lives off it's sham of an upscale brand name.

    Advice to Management

Sell off to a national chain that knows what it is doing! Eliminate nepotism! It should be illegal but is not. Require educational guidelines for EMBARRASSINGLY under qualified store directors and Department leaders. Not kidding, some managers are nearly illiterate and cannot spell....talking about 'management' here. Stop policing members and redirect efforts on marketing and recruiting talent. Losing ground daily!

I worked at AJ's Fine Foods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Allowed me the chance to learn new customer service skills in a new department that I have not worked before.

    Cons

Very tight knit of people that generally gave hours to the departmental employees that have worked there the longest before giving hours to the new hires.

    Advice to Management

Watch for ANY manager giving favoritism within departments. This may not seem like a concern but IT can cause many problems within departments due to the favoritism being shown to certain people.

I have been working at AJ's Fine Foods part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours & nice amount of hours. Some good co-workers. Fast pasted during the holidays.
Great part of town, meet different types of customers.
Will get called in to pick up extra hours when someone calls in.
Sometimes you get to try the new products that come in.

    Cons

Not a good employee discount, have to spend over $15 to get it. They let to many people call out, which means you end up coming in on days off or staying longer.
If you part time & work under 21 hours you don't get vacation hours not matter how long your with the company.
    To many lazy negative workers.

    Advice to Management

Treat the workers who have been there longer better. Give them better rewards when they come in on most of their days off.

I have been working at AJ's Fine Foods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Member discount, easy job while going to school or working part time.

    Cons

Management can expect a lot from people making $10 an hour

    Advice to Management

Allow sampling and promotion of products, get rid of dead weight and let employees contribute in other ways to the company.

    Pros

Friendly team members and Managers. You could advance if you out in the hours and have the right attitude. Most employees are happy with their jobs.

    Cons

The overall pay is pretty low , though probably in line for the grocery business. The work is pretty physical as you need to be on your feet for 8 hours straight with only 30 minutes beak for the whole day.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you listen to your employees as they keep the customers happy. Make sure you mentor the team members that want to make a career out of the grocery business.

I have been working at AJ's Fine Foods (Less than a year)

    Pros

Easy, fun people, engaging at times, and free samples.

    Cons

Boring at times. Shifts are sometimes shorter than I would like.

    Advice to Management

Longer shifts with less people on the floor. More people closing when cleaning is required would be nice.

    Pros

Am awesome place to work. I wish they were located in California so I could of transferred. I enjoyed the other associates along with my regular customers.

    Cons

They are only located in AZ

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to your employees, but don't let them overrun you!

I have been working at AJ's Fine Foods part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, along with a slightly over minimum wage salary make this position a nice entry level position into the company. If you can advance, the departments, as well as job opportunities in management and in corporate, offer varied and well paying positions, across many locations in Arizona.

    Cons

Advancement, at least in some stores, is very difficult. Frequently the schedules are not posted until Friday for the next work week, making planning difficult. Stores are rather independently ran by local management rather than with Corporate oversight, so management is a huge make-or-break on if a particular store is enjoyable to work at.

    Advice to Management

Be respectful to the employees, and they will be respectful to you. Happy employees, who are treated fairly will be more productive for you in return. a little mutual respect goes a long way.

I worked at AJ's Fine Foods part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

it is a nice place that is fun to decorate, and always smalls pleasant in general store area

    Cons

if they hire you part time, forget about ever moving into full time. it was my first job outside the family business and the bistro in the Thompson peak location in Scottsdale still haunts me do to poor management, ill treatment of employees such as 1) making up a reason the fired a elder gentleman that wasn't even a good excuse for attention 2) no real discount unless you spend a lot of money and 3) continual lying to employees to bait then into doing the really really aweful jobs until they replace them with cheaper workers, i would give a lower rating if i could

    Advice to Management

get your act together. really evaluate and fire some of your managers
