I have been working at AKiN’S Natural Foods Markets part-time for more than a year

    Pros

I love everyone with whom I work. My job, at its core, is not difficult. Our customers don't seem to be as repugnant as other retail locations.

    Cons

Like any retail job, as soon as corporate arrives the store is greeted with an uninterested, disapproving face. This is sometimes accompanied by a smiling, comforting face; the good cop, bad cop role. I get it. The chain of command is clear. I can respect that. The best I can offer is that corporate start talking to the little guy directly. It might put a little fire in their boots, especially if they're relatively...

I worked at AKiN’S Natural Foods Markets part-time for more than a year

    Pros

*Not a difficult job (with good management) *Good Collage job. *Interesting Products (If you enjoy Health food products)

    Cons

*If you have bad management avoid at all cost. (you will never know until you are in it) *Do not expect too much other than a small part time job. If you do climb the ladder the job becomes not wort the pay.

    Advice to Management

    * It seems like the buisness modle is out dated. Not compeating with the internet very well * Too much product in store. There is no reason to have 7 brands of the same thing in the store.

I worked at AKiN’S Natural Foods Markets full-time

    Pros

There are some kind and hard-working people that work there, but they have been crushed under the boot heel of incompetent leadership, and are terrified. In a sad way, it can be amusing to watch a failing business think of new and innovative ways to fail harder while ignoring the obvious problems staring them in the face, but trust me, it's probably better to observe that from a safe distance.

    Cons

Do you value communication? Well, get ready--you're gonna have more of it than you could ever possibly want, except it won't be effective, and will frequently be so irrational and contradictory that you will start to feel crazy. Depending on your location, you will have countless people telling you different things, many of which will defy any previous retail experience you might have, or even common sense. They will...

    Advice to Management

There is nothing to be said. They have a breathtaking dedication to failure. The ship is sinking, and unless you enjoy rearranging the deck chairs with them, get out while you can.

I worked at AKiN’S Natural Foods Markets full-time

    Pros

The purchasing department had some great people.

    Cons

I remember listening to the manager at 51st and Memorial talk to corporate offices about not hiring a girl because she was too fat. Another employee was mistreated because he was Wiccan, a religion whose main rule is "Do what you will but HARM NONE". The former owner asked me far too many personal questions about my religion, if I was going to have children or not, etc. I NEVER shop here, I don't recommend AKiN's...

I worked at AKiN’S Natural Foods Markets full-time

      Pros

The company offers a non-certified supplement, nutrition, and herb certificate. An employee has the to opportunity to learn about the products that Akin's represents.

      Cons

How each employee uses the afore mentioned knowledge varies from employee to employee. Consistency is sporadic. Sales staff should not be considered a "medical expert." If that were the case, they should hire some one who is qualified to be a medical expert and they should pay them accordingly.

      Advice to Management

Treat their employees like they expect the employees to treat their customers!

I worked at AKiN’S Natural Foods Markets for more than a year

      Pros

      There are Absolutely No pros.

      Cons

This sorry excuse for a company treats their employees like dirt. I worked in the corporate office for over a year and management never once asked how I was doing or how my job was going. They want you to fear them, it was the most toxic environment I've ever been in. There are zero incentives to work for this company.

      Advice to Management

Treat your employees like human beings. The way you treat the employees and run that company is a joke.

I worked at AKiN’S Natural Foods Markets full-time

      Pros

I was lucky to have some great coworkers. Some flexibility with schedule.

      Cons

Not a set schedule. Very low pay for a tremendous amount of work. They NEVER give raises or bonuses, even to employees who have been loyal for 10+ years! Very negative work environment, everyone was scared of the store manager. No 'job description' so everyone was held accountable for everything. Store manager spoke to my coworkers and I in a very disrespectful way and made people cry. Corporate doesn't talk to...
