    I worked at ALDI full-time

    Pros

    Pay and benefits
    Clean office environment

    Cons

Management is very stuffy and you are just another bee in the hive
If you do not start as a District Manager, your odds of success are non-existent

    Advice to Management

Don't take yourself to seriously because you are just a number. Make the time spent there peaceful and real rather than fake

I have been working at ALDI (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent PTO, Starts at 18 days a year. Work Place environment is amazing. Such nice people! There is a raise every year by roughly 2k.

    Cons

There is no room for advancement. ALDI makes you aware of this before hiring you, but once actually being in the position there is no way you can advance.

    Advice to Management

Give room for advancement for corporate buying assistants. Also, with over 1,000 employees at the office (most of them women) your employee retention rate would increase if you had a daycare.

    "Great People, Poor IT Management"

I worked at ALDI full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Passionate, great people
    Benefits are quite decent
Opportunity to work for a rapidly growing, rapidly changing IT department
    Possibility of international travel (Germany)

    Cons

Very poor IT management and decision-making capabilities
Very poor IT planning, architecture, and processes; lots of legacy systems and processes get in the way of even the simplest of tasks
No tools exist to help IT staff in support leading high levels of stress
No possibility to work from home
    Very few holidays off
International IT HQ is based in Germany meaning everything must be approved / performed by them.

    Advice to Management

Management currently has no true, defined responsibilities leaving a wide berth for what is acceptable. Further, no evaluation or consequences exist to deal with under-performing employees, especially management. Often this leads to those under IT Managers to take up the reins of responsibility that would normally fall to management in any other company. The IT department is also increasingly incapable of making important decisions that impact itself and the business as a whole.

Managers should be more formally involved in the functions of their teams rather than acting as an adviser and "filter" between employees and mid to upper-level management. This would especially include deep involvement in major team and department projects.

Lastly, separate roles for project managers and senior engineers do not exist within ALDI IT leaving technical employees little option for advancement other than a role which often handles the management of projects. The strict, tiered job titles are something that truly hampers the potential talent of the IT workforce. Some folks just want to be exceptional engineers.

I worked at ALDI as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great company culture, team-based intern experience, week-long ALDI breakdown training, friendly team-members, interns can work overtime if wanted!

    Cons

Frowned upon when showing interest in other roles/departments, little guidance on projects (when intern doesn't have the knowledge), lengthy internship.

    Advice to Management

Give interns a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice preferences for the IT department they get to work in.

    Advice to Management

Treat hourly employees like you would like to be treated!

I have been working at ALDI full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, Fully expensed Audi A3 for a company car, and generous vacation and benefits.

    Cons

There is absolutely no work-life balance and you are expected to "come early and stay late" every day. The expectations are unrealistic and even though the company preaches positive feedback, the only feedback you get is sarcastic comments and ultimately you're left to fend for yourself. The training schedule is inefficient and the job is easily 55-65 hours a week at a minimum.

    Advice to Management

Cut back the in-store training portion of the DMT training schedule and focus more on treating your new hires with respect.

I worked at ALDI full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The best thing I can say about my experience is that it's a rather interactive, young team, and that ALDI provides a lot of amenities to employees. They have good technology at your actual desk, and the lunchroom is stocked with good food, coffee, etc.

    Cons

This company, at least in this department, likes to micromanage. This is the kind of place where you'll get written up--possibly even let go--for things as simple as hanging your jacket on the back of your chair instead of the coat hanger, or not locking your drawer at night (regardless of whether you keep anything in it).

They are also not set up to allow for much critical thinking. They do not want people to use their skills in this position to help people; they want people to be uniform and--I hate to use the cliche--robotic.

They are very secretive and interested in keeping employees in the dark until they need to know more information. Not really something I'd suggest for curious minds.

    Advice to Management

If you treat your employees like children, you will only have children as employees.
