I worked at ALK Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Although the base salary is not the greatest you can make solid money through commission. Due to the subscription nature and the new versions of products, many sales come very easy through updates and old clients purchasing the new versions. Sales management is rather hands off and does not overly micro manage.

    Cons

The con to management being hands off is that there is not a whole lot of sales training involved. You learn about the product and start making calls within your territory. It is not a sink or swim environment but not a great onboarding program.

    Advice to Management

When hiring green sales professionals, focus time on building sales skills and strategies, rather than strictly product training.

I worked at ALK Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This place has a great culture, with great people. The office is pretty nice as well, even though it's already pretty much at capacity. ALK is a great place to get your feet wet as a kid right out of college. There are a lot of young people, and you get the opportunity to learn and work on a wide variety of different technologies.

    Cons

You will probably notice people mentioning pay as the primary con. They start off at a competative salary, but that number will climb quite slowly unless you get a promotion. But this stems from a much larger issue. Although you will here that most things improved since Trimble aquired ALK, it seems that ALK has become little more than an undersized life raft for a company on a steady decline.

Trimble would continue to praise us for being well over expected earnings time and time again, only to be overshadowed by the drastic losses seen in a much larger agriculture sector. It was readily apparent that Trimble only cared about the bottom line, and as a result ALK would see less and less of that money because it was needed to make up for some of the losses (hence the salary complaints). The biggest slap in the face was when we learned that while the budget for raises was almost nonexistent, the budget for new hires had been padded quite nicely in clear expectation of a high turnover rate.

Insurance was pretty good when I started, but even that was replaced with high deductable plans that somehow still had higher monthly premiums.

There are other aspects that bothered me as well, but I just wanted to give you the bigger picture.

    Advice to Management

You need to start showing that you care about your employees and reward them accordingly, or all the good ones will leave.

I have been working at ALK Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I've been working at ALK over 5 years and I couldn't be happier with my decision to join the organization. The biggest perk of working here is the people I have the opportunity to work with every day, both within my direct team and on other teams. There are some extremely intelligent, hard-working people that are proud and invested in what they do and I'm amazed at how much I've learned since I've started. There's also a lot of collaboration across many levels and I can say I've grown professionally through my interactions. Other Pros: many internal growth opportunities, I've myself hired multiple candidates from other teams looking to grow and try something new, great flexibility if work/life balance is important to you

    Cons

Work spaces could be a little more modern and tech-oriented

I have been working at ALK Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Everyone at the company is great. Supervisors are all very friendly and understanding. Dress code is very laid back. Hours are very flexible.

    Cons

No room for advancement. The work also got repetitive and tedious unless you came up with ways to keep yourself interested. You're also isolated from the rest of the company in that there's not much interaction with other departments.

    Advice to Management

Come up with ways to keep people engaged. It's easy to get lost in the tedium of day-to-day work.
