I worked at ALSTOM as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Technical experience
    Focus on engineering design
    Focus on updating procedures

    Cons

    Oppressive management culture
    Micromanagement is incredibly stifling
    Inflexible due dates kill creativity
    Unfair management
Management treats you like a robot, and they will not lose any sleep to having you gone, you are a tool and instrument

    Advice to Management

Upper upper management needs to weed out the leading managers and accidental managers and the toxic managers.

Measure your workplace happiness. Be surprised!

Treat contractor safety seriously! Honestly for a place who suffered through a hefty $100k fine from the OSHA complaint in early 2016, they have much to learn...

I have been working at ALSTOM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Alstom is a great stable company to work for with a very flexible work environment. The train transportation projects we get to work on are scattered throughout the world and are interesting. The engineers that I work with are for the most part happy and relaxed. It is not a stressful environment.

    Cons

If you don't like the French, trains or engineering train related systems this isn't the company for you.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

I have been working at ALSTOM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The building is ok, the cafeteria is vending machines, but the coffee is free.

    Cons

the level of bullying and harassment is difficult to get around and get your work done.
At no level of management in the Melbourne Florida plant is there anyone who will take the harassment or bullying realistically. At each level they laugh at the idea that your manager could be targeting you as a scapegoat/harassed person. Unfortunately if you are a go-getter and like to help people with their work issues, DON'T WORK HERE!!!

    Advice to Management

the first level management needs to take some training of bullying and harassing their employees.

    Pros

The people working there are very nice and friendly. All the computer and equipment were already set up at your desk from day one.

    Cons

The job description was pretty general. The manager was pretty laid back and did not plan out the project thoroughly. There were many unnecessary delays.

    Advice to Management

Plan out the project better. Think of all the necessary tools that are needed for the job before hiring people.

I have been working at ALSTOM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Vacation time is long compared to other companies. Start with 3 weeks and go up to 6 weeks. 401K is good.

    Cons

R&D team is not doing the real R&D, just the basic platform and UI features.
Low salary, no stocks. Most people have no career path especially with the GE transition.

    Advice to Management

Be nice to your team members. They can be your competitors or customers one day.
