    Pros

Rainbow Media is comprised of silos of networks. Can't generalize. Not all business within the company are created and treated equally.

    Cons

The Cablevision parent company is often unclear about how the Rainbow Media networks fit strategically within the larger cable provider company, and their value if often questioned.

    Advice to Management

Articulate a strategic business plan where Rainbow Media's value is greater than the sum of its network parts.

    Pros

It allows you to get into the New York market. You start out in a freelance capacity and fight to get on staff just to get benifits.

    Cons

The pay could be better. They have you do more work that in the city but for a third of the pay.

    Advice to Management

While it is great working for you the pay has to be to the point where you can afford to live on Long Island.

I have been working at AMC Networks part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I work for AMC Networks part-time and it's a very friendly atmosphere. All the tools you need to succeed are handed to you on a silver platter. Even has a nobody I had my own office (extremely glorified cubical; image an office with no window). Very comfortable hours too.

    Cons

Very large company and Rainbow Media owns several departments that don't intermingle (except at the top). Not really a con but it's the closest thing I can think of. Especially since each floor is newly renovated (as of spring 2012).

I worked at AMC Networks as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The generally environment was professional and friendly. New ideas were always welcomed and encouraged. Coworkers shared the same goals and worked as a team.

    Cons

My position was freelance and should have been made a staff position.

I worked at AMC Networks full-time

    Pros

Hard working staff, high expectations that equal great results, approachable upper management, excellent benefits and perks. For the most part, most everyone is willing to teach you if you're looking to learn.

    Cons

Some big egos in middle management, can have some damaging office politics and sometimes very "clique-y". If someone doesn't like you personally, some people have a hard time putting that dislike aside and therefor some people are treated differently.

    Advice to Management

You do a great job of being approachable. The company is successful because of the clear goals you have set.

    Pros

Great benefits, Good work-life balance, television shows produced are high quality

    Cons

Very hierarchical structure. Unless you're top management your opinion doesn't matter.

    Advice to Management

Take a bigger interest in employee development - good people work for you.

I worked at AMC Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work closely (proximity) with senior management. Nice non-pretentious open door policy. Friendly atmosphere. Very understanding of work/life balance.

    Cons

Many stagnant employees on all levels makes it difficult to move up as there are not many job openings. Some clash between departments.

I worked at AMC Networks full-time

    Pros

Loved AMCN. Super friendly environment, you work hard and they reward you well, they make you feel appreciated which is awesome and rare. I loved it there and my boss was a great mentor and still is to this day.

    Cons

If you are a coordinator, it is difficult to grow. The execs have been there for years and years and don't really move from there. A lot of people end up leaving to grow elsewhere. My starting salary as a manager at a different network was well more over some managers that were at AMCN for years.
