    Pros

No overtime, so 40 hr per week. If you leave late, you can use the time you accumulated to leave early or come in late.

    Cons

Pay is about 25-30% below market rate. There isn't any bonus or profit sharing. Employees are not motivated and has very low morale. The engineering manager/director is a jealousy person and will take credit for your work to help him to get promotion from his boss while the top management doesn't really know your existence. Has very low ethics and has no shame in taking other's work results w/o other's permission and shows no appreciation. Promote a very political climate within the department. Uses his pet engineer to spy on other engineers. Between managers and managers, there are major issues. Quality and Manufacturing (managed by a Redneck bully) doesn't communicate or exchange information and most likely hate each other to death. MRB takes place once a quarter it seems. Once the failed production units are found, they go into the MRB cabinet and stay there for 3 month.

    Advice to Management

Pay employees with market rate and boost up benefits to motivate employees. Hire some qualified managers for engineering, manufacturing and quality. Promote a friendly working environment.

I have been working at AMETEK full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Once your company is acquired, say good-bye to at least 5% of your co-workers. This is good because it makes the office seem much less crowded. Pay cuts and other cost cutting measures will be necessary to achieve the new lofty profitability goals. This is also good, because workers really can have too much money. Don't worry, the explanations for the cost reductions will provide humor in an otherwise unhappy workplace.

You are free to leave as soon as you find a new job. Just don't let the door hit you in the back on your way out.

    Cons

Ametek is a profitable company that works very hard at keeping its operating expenses as low as possible. Unfortunately, employees are not a valued resource. Industry average wages will be replaced with below average wages. 40 hours a week is the minimum, unless you are a manager and then 35 hours is acceptable.

Layoffs and pay cuts are used to meet the unrealistic/inflated profitability goals. Of course morale suffers as a result of these cost cutting measures. There is a general lack of honesty throughout the entire Ametek organization. The corporate IT department thinks Lotus Notes is a state of the art email program.

    Advice to Management

You can only sh!t on your people for so long.

I worked at AMETEK full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

None. Ametek does not care about their employees. They have sent thousands of jobs offshore.

    Cons

Company is mis-managed. Current leadership team is a joke. Sales Manager is an embarrassment and a buffoon. Within a year of acquiring us, they decided to close the plant I had worked at for over 15 years.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of current leadership (and I use the term loosely).

    Pros

    Good pay and clean place

    Cons

This review is for the work place in Mt Prospect for future assemblers. If you want to work here you have to be willing to take a whole lot of rubbish. They don't train you properly. The work books are out-dated and unhelpful. You will be trained by one person and be told by the next person that you are doing it wrong. If you need help from the engineer, they ignore you. People on the test line don't give you the paper work review stating what you may have done wrong on the machine you build. They are supposed to show it to you and you are supposed to sign it. Anything you mess up on is not brought up to you, it goes straight to your supervisor. You are hardly consulted about anything. If you mess up you are out the door with a call from your temp service. You aren't given a chance. Let's not forget language barriers. There are a few people who can speak proper English. The test line workers communicate only with other full-time employees on YOUR machine to fix it if there is a problem. Don't ever go to HR for help either, they don't care about your issues. They favor they're full time employees so they can make the company more money. If you have an issue with a full time employee, you will be let go even if it's not your fault. OH and let's not forget that no one there does their job. You will assemble and do quality control for them and whatever else they don't feel like doing. They never update stock and you end up sitting there with your thumb up your buns waiting for 5 different parts at a time.

    Advice to Management

    Communicate with one another.

    I worked at AMETEK full-time

    Pros

Professional, easy going environment. Nice staff. Pay was great, that is about it.

    Cons

Over-worked, underpaid, micro managed to the hilt.

The wage paid was not worth the work expected. Their expectations were far greater than that of the position they hired for. They have a high turnover rate in all positions in all of the company and it is due to the Big Brother Corporate Giant that looks over their shoulders at every waking moment, and the managers both supervisors and upper-management do not know how to run a business, but are very good at holding unnecessary meetings that take people away from their daily tasks and further drives sales south for the business. It is unconscionable to not provide the proper training to your employees that they deserve. Perhaps if the business could provide supplies that the employee needs to function in their job, they wouldn't have disgruntled staff. This place runs VERY LEAN and that means every aspect. This company has minimal staff to accomplish tasks, meaning they require lots of overtime to get the jobs done. This company does not provide the tools necessary to function in their job, so it is only a matter of time before someone gets tired of it and leaves. Also, when they hired me for the position, the job turned out to be something completely different than expected. Seems to happen a lot there. They say "we are a family", but you really need to watch your back.

    Advice to Management

Stop Micro-managing your employees and give them the proper training they deserve instead of throwing your employees into the deep end with anvils. Upper-management doesn't know how to run a business and if they don't want high turn-over, they need to figure out how to keep their employees happy and not stressed out beyond what they can handle. They need to understand, also, that vacation and personal days matter to the employee. If you only offer 7 days off AFTER the first year of working there, you are begging for people to quit.
Work on bettering the morale and work/life balance for your employees.

I worked at AMETEK (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Existing medical cable assembly company.recently purchased by Ametek. Former company was fully establish in medical all field - this was Ametek's first foray into medical field.

    Cons

Experience and company loyalty not taken into consideration. Work ethic doesn't seem to matter as long as you can schmuze your way into an unqualified supervisor's good graces.

    Advice to Management

You can not have absolute everything determined by accounting.
