    I worked at AMETEK full-time

    Pros

Nice group of people to work with. Learned quite a bit from other employees.

    Cons

It was all about the money. The VP wanted a job out by the end of the year and cut the burn-in to a nuclear facility and they found out and sent the units back to finish the burn-in. I thought there would be a lot of trouble from that.

I worked at AMETEK full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Location was convenient, parking was not an issue. Salary was below market but you could haggle prior to being hired.

    Cons

Employees were almost viewed as a burden, as if they were getting in the way of management. Too many managers with unchecked privileges. Poor planning. Poor strategy. Very hierarchical. Self-motivated employees were viewed as "rogue". Do not recommend.

    Advice to Management

Hire more assemblers and workers. Rehire and fill non-management positions immediately. One person cannot do his work as well as the job of the fellow you just fired. Or the guy who died 6 months ago. Train people instead of throwing them into the mix as soon as you hire them.

    Pros

You get acquired by Ametek, as such you don't choose working for them, so they need nothing to attract new hires. Financially strong enterprise with multiple business acquisition every year. Continuation of fair compensation according to previous working contracts. Pay above value for acquisitions, making the formers owners happy, but workmanship has to carry the resulting burden of ultra high payback expectations.

    Cons

No investment into business after acquisition. Skilled employees leave the company, poor ones get laid off as HR adjust headcount to declining revenue, which leads to further decline. No timely replacement, every position closes upon termination by default. Benefits from previous employer get cut, bonus programs get discontinued. Corporate IT services are lousy, non working phones, slow or non working intranet, unstable PCs with Spyware and permanent login issues. Expect many unpaid overhours, no team assistence, no front desk staff. No organic growth in existing businesses, only further acquisitions of other businesses. Extreme micro management, business units have no room for making own decisions wrt staffing or budget. Don't act like a technology oriented firm, they act more like a venture capital investor, buy profitable businesses, squeeze the Orange dry, brutal survival of the fittest strategy.

    Advice to Management

Reinvest into existing businesses according to market demand. Stop frustrating key engineers and middle management by applying standard corporate processes that misfit individual needs. Avoid leave of core people and headcount reduction below critical mass wrt knowledge ownership. Allow organic growth of existing markets and businesses.

I worked at AMETEK (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive pay, flexible schedule, and great co-workers.

    Cons

They Lie to and Steal from their customers. I've seen calibration paperwork forged. They claim ISO certification but have no process in place and when i attempted to resolve this I was told "That is just to much work". Management really doesn't know what they are doing and that leads to alot of unnecessary stress and huge loss of quality of work. They think lean manufacturing means laying off people then whomever is left split up the work. I learned alot but I am happy I left before beginning to believe that what they did was normal or ethical.

    Advice to Management

Create standard practices and adhere to them, I know it's a lot of work but it will resolve more problems and start to eliminate wasteful mistakes. Maybe take a course in production management.

    Pros

Remote Sales Manger position afforded a good work life balance, good pay and a company vehicle + gas. Aerospace and aviation related high ticket sales and highly engineered products.

    Cons

Goals set by those who are uneducated to the current state of the industry and unwilling to adopt or architect a revised approach to expanding aftermarket business to supplement the problematic cycles associated with OEM customers.

    Advice to Management

Top heavy management structure and limited bandwidth for real leadership.

I have been working at AMETEK full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Ametek has a good benefits package and overall is a ok company to work for. Pay is lacking some, but the work is steady and very few layoffs.

    Cons

Ametek is mostly concerned with making money and fails to plan out for the long term for production. parts are purchased at the very last moment and very little is done for quality checks upon receipt of parts. This causes a lot of overtime and orders to the customer to be late. Rushing orders also directly impacts quality of product. This seems to go in waves and needs more attention.

    Advice to Management

A little more planning on the part of management to bring in the correct parts ON TIME and hold vendors to quality standards will make a big difference.
