I have been working at AMX full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very nice people. Relaxed atmosphere. Good pay. Good benefits. Good severance packages. Cheap lunches

    Cons

Laid long-term employees without any regards to experience or effect on products and clients.

    Advice to Management

Management does not seem to understand product, services, clients, or market. Need to solicit input and feedback from experienced employees, as well as clients.

    Pros

If you want overtime you got it! Always had supplies needed.

    Cons

hours are never the same. When they lost a project manager at the head quarters they just stopped sending us to work and forgot all about us for 6 months before we were "fired"

    Advice to Management

More communication with your project managers.

I have been working at AMX full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It is a friendly environment. Easy to create a long term career. $3 lunches are provided. Get exposed to different technologies.

    Cons

Product owners do not know what they are doing. They have no clue what the customer requirements are and ask engineers what they should do. No idea what is going on half the time after the Harman takeover, it is as though they do not know what to do with is. The company is going down hill and I wont be surprised if sold or downsized in coming weeks.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of all high level managers (VP/Directors) and talk to the employees. When an acquisition takes place there is always going to be some push back. But nearly 3 years surely it is no brainer where the problems ara.

    Pros

Harman discount is really nice, especially for Christmas sales. Some of the people are still a joy to work with but have that finger on the resume' "send" button.

    Cons

Shameful people running the business side. Out to screw every dealer and end user for a buck. Once manufacturing goes to China, watch the fail rate climb.

    Advice to Management

Catch up with the rest of the tech world and treat people better. Learn to give praise to the people actually doing all the hard work. Stop thinking you have the market cornered.

I worked at AMX full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Up until the Harman acquisition, there were many Pros. The culture was positive, benefits were good, people were happy and secure with their jobs.

    Cons

The positive, innovative environment that we once loved has became negative and out of touch. Its relatively still a small company so its resources and budgets are kept so tight amongst the various departments that your job role expands, your tasks multiply and forced to work extra hours just to keep up.. which leads to a lack of care, energy and quality production. There was a strong personal vendetta from my manager that didn't help either. Also, career advancement paths don't exist unless you live there, work overtime, kiss arse and take names. Now just the opportunity to purchase Harman gear at cost is about the only benefit.

    Advice to Management

Devote more funding and support to Training initiatives. That department really needs resources, developers, coordinators and help. Listen to your end users and dealers. Go above and beyond to ensure they receive the best training and support experience.

I have been working at AMX full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Idea capable with cutting edge technology,

    Cons

Need for better advertising and marketing, need to be more agile internally to respond to issues, need to expand support to dealers and endusers. No real idea about the customer and how they select the products . Does not hire innovation in the areas they are weak. Must learn the competion down to the product lines so clear differentiation can be made and verified by the channel and the users. Dealers are in charge of the customers perception of the products and services AMX should be managing. Everyone in the company should be in sales and support of the customers. Do not pay sales and support personnel in the same fashion unless you are willing to degrade the pay for those in operations when they do not deliver the products and services to sales

    Advice to Management

Management is working like it has for the past 30 years , need to inovate in sales an support for dealers and endusers especially when you are late to delivery you full capabilities. The company is asking its dealers and endusers to trust in the new products but getting them was delayed and spotty and now the company need to commission the new lines for success if they do not want to destroy the momentum they have converting folks over to the new products. More touches with the decision makers on usage will only help overcome the lead your competitors have currently.

I worked at AMX full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cool products, nice people, good benefits and competitive salary. Office in Richardson is quite modern and appears to be a good environment.

    Cons

If you're working for a regional office expect conflicting direction and ever-changing priorities coming out of HQ. A lot of spark, but no fire (strong ambition, no direction, limited execution - believes it can regain market-share w/o innovation but by pure cult of personality. Senior Management changes often as executives quickly fall out of favor - this accelerates directional changes and often shuffles priorities!

    Advice to Management

Be CONSISTENT and define whom and what you want to be already! Innovate and drop some of the legacy products and software you've been carrying along for over TWO DECADES NOW! Decide what markets you honestly want to compete in, and cut the cord/rip off the band-aid in markets to which you are obviously paying lip service (home automation). Finally, decide what's more important: honestly in evaluating your core competencies or brown-nosing your way on to job sites / into all internal discussions!

    Pros

Really great people to work with. Benefits are good. Environment is upbeat.

Engineering is prohibited from speaking to sales. What the? Employees are smarter than management. They should switch places.

    Advice to Management

Push decisions down to the people closest to the customers. Do your homework. Stop guessing.
