Work here if you get the chance!

Apr 12, 2018 - Technology Account Manager in Austin, TX

    Pros

The people! Everyone at APCO is open-minded, compassionate, and cares deeply about their work. Great visibility and access to sr. Managers, directors- even as an intern. You are truly made to feel like you are a part of the family.

    Cons

If you’re looking for a structured, timed career progression path- probably not the best fit. There are several roles and divisions you can move into, so there isn’t a set track for career progression for each role (could actually be a positive for many!)

    Not the greatest of places

Jul 30, 2021 - Manager in Washington, DC

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Good salary, good office in the center of the nation's capital. Convenient to lots of activities nearby and restaurants and transportation

    Cons

Little say in what companies or projects you would be assigned to, assignment can change overnight so you could be working with a Chilean fishery and then with a Canadian bank.

    Great place to work

Apr 18, 2016 - Help Desk Manager in Dumfries, VA

    Pros

APCO is a great place to work and the people are nice to work with.

    Cons

Compensation is on the low end of the market. But this depends on what department and manager you'll be working with.

    Manager

Feb 17, 2016 - Manager in Washington, DC

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Collaborative environment, open door policy, the ability to share your thoughts and create innovative and strategic ideas in attracting clients.

    Cons

Pay could be better. The work-life balance all depends on the practice area/department you work in. Communication from Senior Level colleagues can use some improvement, particularly when it comes to the review process.

    Demanding but exciting company

    Jan 12, 2021 - Manager
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Opportunity to work on a great diversity of international clients on topics which are most of the time quite exciting. Team of smart and very nice people with whom you will work around the globe. Family management of the firm which limits financial pressure on the day to day basis and help put a good atmosphere internationally.

    Cons

Very difficult to get an international mobility, favoritism still a trend for promotions and clients attribution. A lot of turnover these past years. Expect to work long hours and during holidays, week-ends without being always rewarded. The fixed pay is relatively good but rare (and small) bonuses.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. I’d be interested in understanding more about how you experienced any office politics, as we place a high emphasis on collaboration at APCO, so it would be great to get some insight into any areas where that is not working so well. Sweet company turned to a sweet talk company in GC.

    Pros

Department head used to be knowledgeable for the region and company business. Managers level able to work with their sleeves rolled up. Project team n back office were full of talents and good people People respected people like a human being.

    Cons

Things changed around 6 months ago Company hired very China local department head. Department is full of politics and most members are trying to get benefit from this mess. New hires are good at honey talk but nothing else. Favored individual with limited knowledge can easily be loved with their chattering skills. People unwilling to take responsibility, but only good at replying others by saying 'on behalf of xxx' or only can pass out questions to other members by forwarding 'FYA' Full of deceives by the department head. Disrespected old team members, new leader likes to compare her team members with other region team members. Human Resources is werid on their job in the office, warned individual should say sweet thing in order to impress the new department head. Human Resources purposely amended the internal policy to pick on certain sick leave individuals. Without proper annocument of the new policy and tried to enforce it, even wanted to backdated the policy to months ago.

A good place to grow, but sometimes resembles a sweat shop

Sep 29, 2016 - Account Manager in Dubai

    Business Outlook

    Pros

APCO is a huge, global communications agency with offices all ove -r the world, and every office has its own distinct flavor in terms of work experience, management-employee relations, etc. My review is based on my experience in one of its offices. The pros are - Very interesting clients - A fast-paced, learning environment - A good place to begin your career and advance up to the mid manager level - Overall, friendly colleagues (though a few rotten apples manage to spoil things)

    Cons

    - There is a high degree of favoritism. - Lack of healthy communication between the management and staff. - A very political environment, which takes its toll on productivity and creativity. - A high pressure environment. Long work hours with little regard to work-life balance. - Company seldom refuses clients. This means APCO bends over backwards to please even its more difficult clients, mounting immense pressure on the client servicing team.
