I worked at API (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It was a pleasure to work with the VP of IT. Was a nice, family like atmosphere while it lasted.

    Cons

    Too many to list:
    1. It is not an IT company, so even though the company runs because of web based product, IT never gets the credit.
    2. VP of IT is amazing. His management, technical skills, commitment to the company and ability to take care of the team is exceptional. However, the upper management has no faith in him. He gets a new boss every few months, who makes drastic changes. A few months later when the changes do not yield result he gets fired. The VP then sets everything right again, only to have a new boss take over again a few months later.

In the few years that I was with the company, this was repeated 4 times. The last one outsourced every IT function, and left the company in a soup.

    Advice to Management

Show more respect to IT people. Listen to the VP and give him the power that you give the new comers.

I have been working at API full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This company does have a lot of various ways in which an employee can get new things on their resume. Overall, the people who are here are wonderful. This is a perfect place to start or end your career.

    Cons

Management is out of touch. Benefits and pay are not terribly competitive. Lots of work load is expected of you with little help/compensation.

    Advice to Management

Get in touch with the staff. Leadership and good behaviors start from the top down - not the other way around.

Financially respect those who have the industry experience or you may seen them move on.
