I have been working at API Technologies full-time

    Pros

The company runs leans so there are lots of ways to gain additional experience or responsibilities if you ask for them. There are lots of ways to make a positive impact if you are someone who is motivated to add skills and experience. Management cares about the employees and they work hard behind the scenes to do what they can to make the work environment better.

    Cons

Business has been tough the past year or two in part due to the industry and in part due to business practices from past leadership. The new CEO and management team are taking the right steps to turn things around. It will take time so pay and benefits aren't as competitive to bigger companies.

I have been working at API Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Co-workers
Freedom to complete my work in my personal way
Opportunity to learn without any "help or training" from management.

    Cons

Previous company was acquired by api, and provided very little in way of support from upper management. Now in final weeks before they are closing down our location.

    Advice to Management

When problems or issues arise, deal with it immediately and don't wait for it to become an even greater problem.

    Pros

Some good employees; unfortunately they end up leaving due to the culture the 'veterans' want to maintain.

    Cons

Poor management not in touch with workers or what happens on the floor. Very disorganized planning functions & sales force. Poor communication with employees results in very low trust. Poor benefits package and HR is totally disconnected with needs of the employees. Inability of management team to take a hard look at the operational performance and make necessary changes. Culture is rancid - characterized by declining employee morale, back-biting and favoritism. You always had to be looking over your shoulder. Employees would intentionally sabotage work to 'prove their point' to management. Can't find qualified employees. No clear vision of the future for the company, vendors don't get paid resulting in delivery slippages and unhappy customers. Sales are low and no clear path to improvement.

    Advice to Management

Need to clean house and get innovative and fresh perspectives. Bob seems to be on the right track to improving the company but he will need to take a hard look at how the management team treats people.

I have been working at API Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are some very good people that work at API. People who try very hard to do a good job with their assigned tasks, sometimes with little to know guidance or assistance. These out-of-the-box thinkers and the "doers" keep this company running.

    Cons

There is very little corporate involvement with each business entities' overall day-to-day process. Most areas are running a muck. Their is little to know planning to most tasks, but no matter what, it better not affect revenue! This mentality has lead to poor planning, poor production (poor workmanship) poor attitudes and overall poor output.

    Advice to Management

Develop a plan for improvement, implement it by assigning someone who understands how to project manage and set goals to achieve milestones through the improvement process. Reward employees who are successful. Provide and atmosphere of appreciation, value and worth that make the employees never want to leave. Empower those in the appropriate positions to provide the type of leadership the the company needs to move forward. Not the existing bruit -orce that drives good employees seeking and finding other companies who will work for them.

    Pros

Very cool and smart people I work with. Managers are very approachable (at least in the upper management ranks)

    Cons

Benefits arent all that good. Health Insurance is expensive and it's not very good coverage (even on their BEST plan). Trying to get a raise is like pulling teeth
