    Pros

    Good Benefits
Engineering staff is good to work with
    Cubicle instead of open configuration

    Cons

This is in regards to the POS division. The ISS division does not have these problems.

    Poor management
You will be constantly putting out fires
Severe lack of leadership and they will then blame the engineers
Unwilling to think of the future. Just fix that right now and move on to the next fire
    No architecture.
Company has ADHD and can't continue on a chosen plan for more than a few months
High turn over ~60% so everybody is still learning the system and there are few that can help you learn it.
    Lots of scapegoating.

If you have to have a job go for it. Just don't park here for very long. There are lots of companies in the area that are decent to work for.

    Advice to Management

    Be leaders. Have a plan.

I worked at APPSware (Less than a year)

    Pros

This company has hired smart people. It is small and nimble and able to quickly react to challenges and make the necessary fixes. Management knows their people and want to know what is going on. They listen.

    Cons

This company does not perform a TOC when they implement or plan a project. The budgeting is very limited if done at all. They still act like a startup company.

    Advice to Management

Please please, develop an enterprise roadmap that includes not only products but operational efforts plus projected expenses. and then communicate it to all.

  3. "OK place to make a day's wage if you don't want to have a life or move upwards."

    Pros

Pay is decent and the position is secure if you tow the company line. Office is in a nice location. Lenient about working hours and use of personal equipment.

    Cons

Difficult to get use of vacation time approved. Vacation time must be used in the year its accrued, but not always possible to use it. When leaving, unused vacation/sick time is NOT paid out.
    Management plays too many games.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing games and treat people equally rather than having favorites, the despised and the rest. Also, stick to your promises (bonuses mentioned but not paid, company parties put out and then canceled, unused vacation promised to be preserved but not actually saved).
