I worked at AREVA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Excellent Pay.
    Acceptable Benefits.
Fair Job Security IF NOT in the Service Business.

    Cons

Micromanagement by the French causes much harm to North American business.
Service Organization continually "beats up" field service employees.
    The "bottom line" rules all.
Middle Management is HUGE!!!! Yet all cuts come from lowest level of work force.

    Advice to Management

It really is time to trim middle management.
Begin treating your field service personnel with a tad more respect.

    Cons

Sometimes the work was a little slow.
It can be difficult at times to get a chance to talk to specific individuals.

I have been working at AREVA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They think outside the box. They treat you like an adult and I have never been micromanaged. They provide ongoing training opportunities and invest in their employees. I love that they allowed me to work remote for five years to care for my family out of state. There is a life work balance. Benefits are great

    Cons

I honestly can't think of a con as my experience at work has been nothing but fantastic. If anything, the few that abused the sick leave policy to the point you had to curtail it to 7 days was annoying but not the end of the world. Ok I wish non exempt folks could bank overtime like exempt folks. I'd rather bank 50% or all of my overtime rather than be paid overtime.

    Advice to Management

Continue to think outside the box and apply those management tactics to employee needs. It encourages long term loyalty and commitment to a job well done

I have been working at AREVA full-time

    Pros

    - Good people
    - Profesional environment
    - Good benefits

    Cons

-Engineers are overworked and not paid overtime. 8h of overtime a week is consider casual (unpaid).
    - Very old fashion industry. Engineers are a close minded.
    - People get trainined on procedurs, guidelines and policies but not on technical skills other than learning a software.
    - The environment is not very appealing for young people

    Advice to Management

Engineers working unpaid overtime and meeting customer deadlines in not the ideal concept of a "right sized" company. Either make a case to bring in more people or pay extra hours to those that are really working hard.
Efficiency is not about all employees working full steam all the time. Times when the load work load is not very high are good to recover at work even if it may be seen in management as oversized headcount.

I have been working at AREVA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Competitive salary
    - Fairly flexible work schedule (choice of 8 hour days or 9/80)
    - Most of the managers are good with only a few that I would not want to work for

    Cons

    - Training. I feel that the training we receive is completely irrelevant to the work I actually do.

    Advice to Management

Management talks about mobility and having opportunities to transfer to different departments/locations, but it feels that once you're assigned into a department you're pretty much stuck there.

I have been working at AREVA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Lateral mobility is excellent and supported by management. There are always a variety of projects and opportunities. There is flexibility to work part time and/or flexible work hours.

    Cons

Young people are leaving to a point that the demographic group seems to be missing. Our organization is more complex than most. Salaries and bonuses are lessened in the past several years. There is a strong culture of blame in upper to middle management.

    Advice to Management

We are reactive when we should be strategic and forward looking. We are inward looking instead of outward. Our structure needs to be more vertically aligned about projects and customers.

I have been working at AREVA full-time

    Pros

Relatively good pay and a good amount of time off. Somewhat flexible schedule during non-peak times of the year.

    Cons

Almost zero incentive for personal performance. Salary adjustments do not keep pace with cost of living adjustments. Almost every job is a dead end with no path for progression in one's career.

    Advice to Management

Learn to trust your employees. Provide reasons and rewards for personal employee improvements. Open your eyes and plan further than the next three months.

    Pros

Good company when there is work. Good quality of men to work with.

    Cons

Lack of work. Training is second rate.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to invest into there part time employees to train more. Especially those who want more.
