I have been working at ARIAD Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible environment and growth potential.. Being a small company, your effort gets noticed, recognized and appreciated in a quick manner.

Totally transformed from the old management to New management ...lives and breathes in the new culture and DNA...management takes ownership, make it happen and feel for patients....

    Cons

There is more work but managers give a helping hand at all times. Need to continue to work on process enhancements.

I worked at ARIAD Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

some friendly co-workers, that's about it.

    Cons

Very little regard for employees. Raises are few and far between, and only if you are in mid-senior level management. Anyone in any kind of management position has no regard for their own employees. Prior CEO and CSO have no clue. CSO walks around like he owns the place, and clearly communicates his dislike for anyone who is "not" his equal. If anyone in upper management does not care for you for some reason, they will let this be known and communicate this to your supervisor, and this will consequently lead to a bad review (no raise), even if your direct supervisor gives you a great review. Most employees will have very little future at this company

    Advice to Management

no advice that I put here will make any difference....go ahead and keep soothing your egos.

I have been working at ARIAD Pharmaceuticals (Less than a year)

    Pros

Small teams striving towards a simple yet common goal, so most colleagues are courteous, hard-working and helpful. Pay/benefits are above average.

    Cons

New management aligns with investors and shows little interest in developing a high quality company. Bare-bones governance and infrastructure to support decision-making and internal communications. Lacks the spirit of innovation, and lags behind in scientific or commercial initiatives compared to the peers in the industry. Like most other reviewers said, work-life balance is zero. Those 5-star reviews posted after January 2016, I suspect, are bogus reviews from HR because it doesn't take long for one to sense the poor morale within the company.

    Advice to Management

Walk the walk, and build up the business by properly using your influence in the society. Don't just be slave drivers to your employees. Learn from leaders of world-class companies.

    Pros

Great benefits. Average compensation. Flexible hours with ability to telecommute. Generous training budget. Good work life balance. Ok location for commuting into Cambridge. New senior management team seems to have the company moving in the right direction.

    Cons

Clueless management. It looks to be improving after the executive purging. Still more cleaning is needed to make it a great place to work. This review is based on the management team in place at the time I worked there. There is still some of the old guard that needs to be flushed. Only then will it be a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

Keep cleaning house. Put people in place that will make Ariad a great place to work. Provide a solid direction for the companies future and be sure to articulate this to your employees. My review is based on the old in effective management and doesn't reflect my opinion of the new management team.

I worked at ARIAD Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are really no pros except the co-workers you have the opportunity to meet.

    Cons

Zero work-life balance. They have a reduction and fire good people with no regard to the amount of work that still needs to be done. The good and smart people are walking out the door and they dismiss it as if it was not a big deal or that the person did not matter. They will hire someone above the level you were at but never gave you the opportunity to advance or get promoted. A promotion is on the table when you are walking out the door but it's too late nobody wants to be there.

    Advice to Management

Wake up. Your management is horrible and only care about self-preservation and their money. No regards to people's work-life balance, career development or concerns.

I worked at ARIAD Pharmaceuticals full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are passionate about their work and the company's pipeline. Great benefits and 25 paid vacation days (although you will likely be harassed for taking a single day off), on top of a holiday shut-down between Christmas and New Year's Day.

    Cons

You are expected to work 60+ hours a week and respond to emails around the clock; very sexist environment; anyone not at a Director level or above (especially women) is treated as an admin, regardless of educational background, expertise, and level of contributions; very hierarchical "teams". The company acts like a start-up, rushing to get things done, and sacrificing quality to do so. Teams are not empowered to make decisions, and management does not think proactively.

    Advice to Management

It does not matter how high an employee's salary is or how great their benefits are if they are disrespected and do not feel empowered. The entire culture needs to change or turnover will continue to be high.
