I have been working at ARRIS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working from home. Some great people work here.

    Cons

No reward for working hard, just given more work, while those that don't contribute get less and promoted!

    Advice to Management

Diversity is lacking. There is so much age, race and sex discrimination.

I worked at ARRIS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    * Smart and friendly coworkers
    * Good PTO policy
    * Got to learn a lot of new technologies and grow myself
    * Local management does a great job of working with the employee to further themselves such as working on cool projects or learning new things. They also will commend you for your hard work when you do it.

    Cons

    * Pay increases are minimal even when you are promoted with an outstanding annual review. HR here will not work with you to discuss the matter either.
    * HR doesn't represent or want to represent the employee if it means costing the company anything more.
    * You can get lots of verbal and even written commendations for doing great work such as getting awards for outstanding work but HR will not recommend for any sort of valuable reward and will actually make recommendations to ensure you will not receive any sort of commendation that has physical value.
    * Local management does a great job at making you feel like you are valued if you are a hard worker but HR actively works against going any further if it means the company paying any more kind of money.
    * If HR would at least make attempts to work in the employee's best interests at times then this would probably be a 4-5 star review.

    Advice to Management

Hire HR directors that will both fight for the employee's and the employer's best interests, not just the employer's. Ensure that your HR care about your employees and that they are able to make employees feel valuable. Work on making sure that employees feel like their hard work is valued. Local management does a great job at this but HR fails to allow it to go any further.

I worked at ARRIS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Personally I don't recommend working for Arris but it can be good if you are in the HQ at Atlanta.

    Cons

If you are a SW guy, your skills will atrophy and won't remain current.
Poor planning means poor work life balance. Slow times give way to crushing workloads to hope to make deliveries. You won't be compensated for that extra work.
Self-insurance means you can't really trust that you know what is covered or not. They made one of my co-workers pay back benefits a full year after being told they were covered.
Dying industry without the management to see through piloting toward a vision of what it can deliver in a streaming world.
Underneath they are a HW company and will always allocate profits toward HW making any SW business within Arris unprofitable and therefore soon to be on the chopping block.

    Advice to Management

Stop lying to yourself. Stop catering to short term investors. Learn to make hard decisions that will hurt the stock short term while you turn the company in a new direction.

    Pros

Good benefits and above average PTO.

    Cons

Few lateral or promotional opportunities. No delegation. Middle managers, and even VPs, have little power. All decisions made at the top at a snail's pace. Continuing layoffs despite "best quarter ever."

    Advice to Management

Stop acting like a small business and delegate.

I worked at ARRIS full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Employee stock purchase program is good.

    Cons

Difficult to move up or in to another project team.
Many managers are not very good.
Higher ups have no real idea who the good and not so good employees are.
Job security is not so great.

    Advice to Management

Streamline management structure and have better idea who is effective or not so.

    Pros

stable but yearly trim. Good work life balance. People don't work on weekend so there is no expectation for this.

    Cons

No Perks, office are old. Not sure what . Need to bring younger staff to refresh ideas.

    Advice to Management

Remove layers to execute faster and please make decision faster.

    Pros

Co workers are great and supportive.

    Cons

Executive management is tuned out. Very poor middle management company making poor decisions. There are too many middle managers, multiple VPs and Directors pointing back and forth so that nothing gets finished.

    Advice to Management

Get to know the real workers and quit making decisions based on information from middle management.
